Chris Smalling admits he could stay longer in Italy if his current spell goes well
Manchester United centre back Chris Smalling admitted on Friday that he is open to stay longer at Roma if his current spell goes well.
The English defender was officially presented as a Roma player after joining the Italian side last week on a season-long loan deal.
"I think this is an opportunity that came to me that I was very interested in and I'm very eager to come." he added, "If it prolongs and the club's happy then I can definitely see a longer term future in Italy."
The 29-year-old also made his feelings clear on racism - labelling the issue as "unacceptable in modern times".
Smalling will hope to make his debut next weekend against Sassuolo at the Stadio Olimpico after the international break.
