The 2024 Tour Championship, scheduled for August 29–September 1 with a $100 million purse and a $25 million prize pool, was won by Scottie Scheffler over Collin Morikawa by four strokes. About 40 years ago, it was known as the "Nabisco Championship" on the PGA Tour; however, in 2007, it was renamed as a FedEx Cup playoff tournament. The FedEx St. Jude Championship and BMW Championship come before the Tour Championship, which is a yearly FedEx Cup playoff event. The top 30 golfers on the FedEx Cup points list make up the field for this championship, which has been held at Atlanta, Georgia's East Lake Golf Club, since 2005.
Tour Championship History
The event originally began in 1987 as the Nabisco Championship, which changed to the Tour Championship in 1991. It has always been the season-ending event for the PGA Tour and has had three major format changes: first in 1987 to 2006, followed by 2007 to 2018 and the most recent in 2019. The most major was in 2007, when the event became one of the four events of the Fed Cup Playoff events, the others being the Northern Trust, the Dell Technologies Championship and the BMW Championship. The events were reduced to three in 2019 by removing Dell Technologies Championship.
A new format was used for the competition starting in 2019 to guarantee that the winner will also be the FedEx Cup champion. Akin to the Gundersen technique in Nordic combined, the player with the highest FedEx Cup point total prior to the competition begins at ten points below par. The second-highest scoring player begins at -8, followed by the third at -7, and so on, starting at even par, down to numbers 26 through 30. Starting scores relative to par are not taken into consideration for the Official World Golf Ranking; only aggregate scores are.

Tour Championship 2024 Course
Private golf club East Lake Golf Club is located 5 miles east of Atlanta's central commercial area. It is the city's oldest golf course and dates back to 1904. Golfer Bobby Jones called East Lake his home course, and a large portion of the clubhouse is dedicated to his achievements. The Tour Championship, the last match of the PGA Tour Playoffs for the FedEx Cup, has called East Lake its permanent home since 2005.
The first holes on the course were constructed in 1906, at first seven and then nine. The course was extended to include 17 holes in the summer of 1907, and the 18th hole was added later that same year to complete it. Nelson Whitney won the Southern Amateur, the first major tournament held at East Lake, in 1907 as well. Tom Bendelow inaugurated his "No. 2" course at East Lake in 1908. The East Lake course underwent a renovation in 1913 by renowned golf course designer Donald Ross. The new arrangement stipulated that all nine courses would end at the clubhouse. The No. 2 course was again altered by Ross in 1928.
