Initially, the Canadian Open had a purse of $170 with a winner's share of $60 in 1904. The amount eventually grew to $1,575 in 1926, with a winner's share of $500. In 64 years, from 1926 to 1990, the purse grew to be $1 million with a winner's share of $180,000. It continued to grow, with no such significant increase but an eventual growth of $100,000 to $500,000 yearly.
However, the purse jumped from 2018's 6.2 million to 2019's 7.6 million, which was a growth of nearly $1.4 million. After the COVID-19 pandemic, the purse was $8.7 million in 2022, with a winner's share of $1.5 million. The 2024 event saw a growth of $400,000 from 2023's $9.4 million. The 2025 event will offer $9.8 million as prize money.
