Hideki Matsuyama, a Japanese professional golfer, was born on February 25, 1992. He began playing golf at four, and by 18, he had won five amateur titles from 2010 to 2012. He even ranked world No. 1 in the World Amateur Golf Rankings (WAGR) before turning professional in 2013. Initially playing on the Japan Golf Tour, his first professional win arrived at the 2013 Tsuruya Open, along with three more in the same season. Though technically, his first pro win was at the 2011 Mitsui Sumitomo Visa Taiheiyo Masters as an amateur. Regardless, he joined the PGA Tour in 2014, winning the Memorial Tournament over Kevin Na.

Matsuyama has a career high of No. 2, which he first attained in June 2017, and is ranked No. 6 as of April 2025 by the Official World Golf Rankings (OWGR). Moreover, he has won 20 professional tournaments, including the World Golf Championships (WGC) in 2016 and 2017 and the Masters Tournament in 2021. At the latter, he became the first Japanese golfer to do so. He also represented Japan at the 2020 Tokyo Olympics and the 2024 Paris Olympics, winning a bronze medal at the latter.

Hideki Matsuyama’s Driver - Srixon ZXH Mk II LS

Matsuyama uses a Srixon ZX5 Mk II LS driver with a 9.5-degree loft, fitted with a Graphite Design Tour AD DI-8 TX shaft. Before becoming a Srixon staffer, he used to play with Ping G400 Tour 65, Callaway Epic Flash, and TaylorMade M5 series.

Hideki Matsuyama’s Fairways - TaylorMade Qi10 and Cobra Radspeed Tour

Matsuyama uses two fairways, a 3-wood TaylorMade Qi10 angled at 15 degrees and a 5-wood Cobra Radspeed Tour angled at 19 degrees. The former is installed with a Graphite Design Tour AD DI-9 TX shaft, and the latter with a Graphite Design Tour AD DI-10 TX shaft. As per Golf Monthly, the Qi10 is an all-rounder with launch, looks, and distance, making it top the list of the best fairways available.

Hideki Matsuyama’s Irons - Srixon Z-Forged

Matsuyama uses a Srixon Z-Forged from four-iron to nine-iron, installed with a True Temper Dynamic Gold S400 Tour Issue shaft. The body of these irons is made from a single billet of 1020 carbon steel, giving them a smooth feel and excellent feedback after hitting, as per Golf Monthly. He has also been seen using a utility iron at times, a Srixon ZX Mk II, bent at 20 degrees and fitted with a True Temper Dynamic Gold X100 Tour Issue shaft.

Hideki Matsuyama’s Wedges - Cleveland RTX 4 Forged Proto

Matsuyama carries four Cleveland RTX F Forged Prototype wedges with lofts of 46, 52, 57.5, and 62 degrees. The 46-degree and 52-degree wedges are more standard and less tinkered with. However, he frequently tweaks the 56-degree and 60-degree models to suit course conditions.

All three, including the 52-degree, feature a subtle C-grind shape, with the 56-degree and 60-degree wedges having aggressive heel relief and a straight leading edge with minimal offset. These wedges are also customized with a subtle leading-edge grind similar to his irons, and Matsuyama adjusts the sole width, bounce, and radius to fine-tune turf interaction and shot versatility without altering the look at address (via Golf WRX).

Hideki Matsuyama’s Putter - Scotty Cameron Newport 2 GSS

For putting, Matsuyama uses a Scotty Cameron Newport 2 GSS putter, though he has used several of the Scotty Cameron models in the past and even Piretti and TaylorMade. As per the PGA Tour, he changes his putter quite often, usually going for the plumber's neck hosel. But the Newport 2 GSS is a center-shafted model in which the shaft rises from the clubhead's center rather than the heel section.

Hideki Matsuyama’s Gold Ball - Srixon Z-Star XV

Matsuyama uses a Srixon Z Star XV golf ball. It has a reformulated FastLayer inner core to help with ball speed and distance. It's best suited for distance tee-offs at faster swing speeds, as per Golf Monthly.
