That's all from our side. This is Soumarya Dutta signing off on behalf of my co-commentator Bidipto Datta. Buh-bye, take care and see you all in 2024!
Marcus Stoinis has been declared the Player of the Match! Here is what he has to say.
Marcus Stoinis: The boys set it up for me to finish it! It was about time to put a swing on it, I worked hard with my coach and got the job done, thankfully! The thought pattern changed after the partnership between Glenn Maxwell and Beau Webster. We decided to go after it, otherwise, would have looked to take it deep. Always special to turn up on New Year's Eve and score runs here.
Melbourne Stars 211/3 in 19 overs Beau Webster 66*(48) | Cameron Boyce 1/15 Marcus Stoinis 55*(19) | Wes Agar 1/35
Stoinis finishes off in style and he ends the game scoring the fastest 50 of his career. The Melbourne Stars have been incredible tonight and they've pulled off their highest ever run chase in their BBL history in front of this 42,000 strong crowd at the Adelaide Oval.
They began in superb fashion as Dan Lawrence went hell for leather in the powerplay. He took on the fast bowlers and peppered the on side boundary as he whacked some massive sixes. He was run out just as he looked to complete the fifty but he had set the platform for his side to accelerate from. Glenn Maxwell came in at that stage of the innings and he played his part with the bat as well with a little cameo of 28.
The "Stars" of the show for the Melbourne Stars were Beau Webster and Marcus Stoinis. The former played the anchor role but accelerated at the correct junctures. Marcus Stoinis on the other hand went berserk from the word go and put up a "HULK' like effort as he helped his side to clinch the game with one over sparing.
The bowlers had a really tough game for the Strikers and Matt Short just didn't have enough in the tank , in front of a powerful Stars batting line up. Cameron Boyce, the leggie was lone shining spot for them as he bowled with a lot of guile and variations and took pace off the ball. He went for just 15 runs from his four overs and picked up a wicket. Wes Agar picked up a wicket too, but he was far too expensive for the Strikers' liking.
Melbourne Stars win by 7 wickets and with one over to spare!
