Oman are now very unlikely to have a shot at qualifying for the next stage. Their aim would be to get a big win from somewhere, while Australia would go to up the heat against the Poms in a couple of days' time. That's it from this match, folks! Hope you enjoyed our coverage. It's Rudransh and Karthik signing off!
Mitchell Marsh: It came very close, but good to get the win. It's not different, in this tournament. It's going back to the old T20, someone batting through and Davey's experience came through. That was pretty special from Stoinis. He took his time and showed his experience. Starcy just had a cramp, we didn't want to take the risk. I don't know about cobwebs. It's just different conditions. Oman vs Australia going close is good for cricket. There's a big one against England next up, hopefully there will be a good crowd here. Although it might be mostly English, it's closer to them. There's sun here so they'll enjoy that.
Aqib Ilyas: The tournament is set up really good. The super-over came after so long and we tried to defend it and here, against Australia we did well too. Like I said earlier, our bowlers could do well with spin against them. It was just about that one catch that we dropped which led to the big over. [On his press conference[ The thing with the media is that they don't show the positive things we say about them. We respect them but when you come here no one is bigger than anyone else. Our spinners did well, the fast bowlers did well too. [On his catch] I wanted to take such a catch because Zeeshan had one and it's played everywhere. I wanted to have that moment, something against the Aussies. I wanted it to come to me. We messed up a bit with execution. Stoinis was hitting sixes and I went to them and said that yorkers were slipping into the slot and he was dispatching so we needed to shift to slower ones. It worked from the other end but it was too late. Yes, we need to work on our batting. We are here because we have chased the big scores. Scotland is a team we have played against. We'll be more positive against them. If we score more runs in the powerplay, we can even win in six overs. The first six overs would be very important.
Do stick around for the post-match presentation ceremony...
Marcus Stoinis: Nice start, we got the win and boys spent some time in the middle and everyone got to bowl. I was trying to soak up the conditions and keep it simple. (What was tougher to face) Spin I guess. Couple keeping low, couple spinning and not spinning. But with the new ball the quicks looked tough as well. [Always going to go hard after the 15th?] Not particularly. Davie and I spoke about targeting the first couple of balls of that next over and then you know, you get the first few away and you think to try and turn it into a big over."
Marcus Stoinis has been named as the 'Player of the Match'
End of the match!
Australia win by 39 runs!
Marcus Stoinis 67 (36) and 3/19 Ayaan Khan 36 (30) | Mehran Khan (2/38)
A dominating performance from Australia, which is exactly what you expected of them. It has come by hinging on Marcus Stoinis' unbelievable all-round show. Oman offered a lot of gutsy fight in patches but nothing substantiated into pressure since the second half of the first innings.
After conceding an above-par score, Oman tried to start on the front foot against Starc but he prized out Athavle on a duck. Prajapati and Ilyas were pushed on the backfoot by Hazlewood, allowing Ellis to use that pressure and find his first T20 World Cup wicket.
Stoinis then used his new ball skills to kill the game with two wickets in two overs. Oman didn't try to attack him because they just couldn't, he was that disciplined. From there on, it was all about Oman trying to find a hero and Marsh rotating Zampa and his pacers to pick up regular wickets.
Merhran showed up a bit of a fight late in the innings but he was alone in doing so. Other players just looked a bit too caught up in the occasion. Australia recovered from the scares and Oman didn't, with the day being all about the gulf of experience between the two sides. Oman will learn, Australia will march on.
