Austria beat Portugal by 38 runs and proceed to Qualifier 2.
They didn't lose wickets in a cluster and were off to a flying start. But such was the equation that it only required a couple of quiet overs to shut the door on Portugal and their chances of progressing further in the competition. Their bowlers let them down once again and bled way too many runs, leaving the batters with far too much to do.
That said, skipper Conrad Greenshields had an able ally in Imran Khan as the duo plundered 52 in the first four overs. Pace on the ball aided their cause big time, and it took Ahsan Yousuf's immaculate over to stall the Portuguese charge.
Rao Imran clubbed a hat-trick of sixes before being castled but there was absolutely no time on hand for Portugal to drop their guard. They tried as well as they could, but Jaweed Zadran and Itibarshah Deedar combined to concede all of 9 runs across the 7th and 8th over, killing the contest for good.
Greenshields was left fighting a lone battle again and despite getting to his half-century, he will feel gutted at his team having fallen short for the third time this tournament against Austria, who now proceed to play Spain in Qualifier 2. Razmal Shigiwal will be a pleased man at the other end of the spectrum and will hope that this generates the kind of momentum that can see his side make the summit clash as well.
As comprehensive a performance as they come and Austria progress to Qualifier 2 with a 38-run win. Unfortunately for Portugal, that is that for their campaign.
