It was another close finish today with the Tunbridge Wells just managing to get the better of the Austrian Cricket Tigers. In this last ball finish, 3 runs were required off the final delivery, but the Austrian Cricket Tigers batters could manage only 1 run.
But it was a high spirited batting effort put up the Austrian Cricket Tigers, as at no stage, did they look out of it, or intimidated for that matter, by the mighty Tunbridge Wells bowling attack, and took the match right down to the wire! There were moments of them, actually taking the game away from Tunbridge Wells! The fours and sixes kept coming on a regular basis and the pressure was on the bowling right through. Aqib Iqbal, Imran Asif and Mirza Ahsan, batted superbly to threaten Tunbridge Wells. They even forced a drop catch under pressure in the deep, that went over the rope for six.
But when the heat was on, the skill, class and excellence of Tunbridge Wells, both with the ball, and in the field, came to the fore! They kept taking wickets at regular intervals, especially when the Austrian Cricket Tigers got a good partnership going. The run out in the last over was brilliant, both from the fielder Marcus O' Riordan and the bowler Dave Smith, to save a crucial run. O' Riordan, Bailey Wightman, Matt Barker and Smith took 2 wickets each, while Ian McLean and Alex Williams got a wicket apiece. In fact, Marcus O' Riordan and Dave Smith went for less than 5 runs per over.
With this win, Tunbridge Wells get their first win of the playoffs, that too in their first playoff match and join the Austrian Cricket Tigers on points, with the latter having won a playoff and lost another. The English side will play Dreux next, a little bit later today.
