Interesting how Harmanpreet felt Bangladesh scored 20 runs extra while Sultana thought they were 30-40 runs short. At the end of the day, it was a lack of application from India that cost them. Bangladesh might bring similar minefields for the coming matches too and Harman will want more from her top-order in the powerplay and better aggression from her spinners. That's it from this match, folks! Hope you enjoyed our coverage. This is Rudransh signing off on behalf of Pragadeesh and Bidipto! Keep following Sportskeeda :)
Marufa Akter is the Player of the Match!
Harmanpreet Kaur [India Captain] - No one took the responsibility to bat till the end. We conceded 20 runs extra in the bowling. The bowlers bowled too many wides. We aren't struggling with leg-spin, some of the bowlers bowled really well at the same time. We want to rotate the strike and we have to take the responsibility in the next matches.
Nigar Sultana [Bangladesh Captain]: We were short by 30-40 runs. We were set and threw our wicket. The lower-order gave us a push and we planned to get them out under 120. The wicket-to-wicket bowling was very good from the bowlers plus some exceptional fielding efforts. We wanted to get all the [main] wickets in the powerplay. We just tried to execute our plans. I am very happy that I have all the skills in my team. [On Marufa] She's fresh and talented. Whenever I give her the ball she does the job.
Bangladesh women win by 40 runs! THEY SECURE THEIR FIRST ODI VICTORY AGAINST INDIA. THE CELEBRATIONS ARE ON! THE CROWD IS GOING MAD. A WELL, WELL DESERVED WIN. INDIA ONLY HAVE THEMSELVES TO BLAME HERE.
What a brilliant performance from the hosts. India just had no answers to a difficult pitch. The target wasn't too big, almost par and the visitors looked in the mood to chase it when they came on to bat. Mandhana started positively but got out to a brilliant catch by Sultana.
Bangladesh bowlers were getting movement but at the start, struggled to find the good length regularly, allowing India to collect one boundary in each of the first five. Yastika and Punia looked better than usual on running between the wickets too but Marufa turned up the heat in the last few overs of the powerplay and Punia crumbled under the pressure of run-scoring.
Nahida came back in the last over of the powerplay (she was removed from attack after just one over), conceded a boundary but got Harmanpreet with a quicker one on the next ball, leaving India in tatters. From then on, the hosts just kept on building pressure, bowling stumps-to-stumps and letting natural variation doing the trick.
Yastika and Jemimah went into their shell and couldn't rotate the strike against some excessive spin. Both couldn't handle Rabeya's turn and lost their wickets. Deepti and Amanjot built a small partnership but Marufa came back again with another pacy spell and got Amanjot and Sneh Rana on back-to-back deliveries. Deepti mis-timed a pull on the first ball of the next over, making it three wickets on three balls.
Bangladesh knew they had to be patient after that and kept on bowling on the stumps, deriving two more mistakes and wrapping it up!
35.5 Rabeya Khan to Devika Vaidya, RUN OUT? It's a direct hit and the Bangladesh players believe that they seal this match. Anusha with a full-blooded dive but she is short of her crease. The crowd roars looking at the replay at the big screen and it's been signaled out. Tossed up and it's been turned down to short fine leg. It's a risky single and Sultana Khatun comes up with a bullet throw to score the direct hit at the strikers' end
35.4 Rabeya Khan to Bareddy Anusha, tossed up angling on off-stump, Anusha defends and gets contact in the inside half. The ball rols to square leg and they take a single
35.4 Rabeya Khan to Bareddy Anusha, turns back on a good length and it goes down the leg-side. WIDE!
35.3 Rabeya Khan to Devika Vaidya, angles it across off, Vaidya sweeps it to short fine leg for a single
35.2 Rabeya Khan to Devika Vaidya, back of a length and turns back, Vaidya gets cramped and blocks it back
