Josh Brown is rightfully, the Player of the Match! Here is what he has to say.
Josh Brown: The hip is hopefully alright, should be fine going forward. The hundred hasn't settled in yet, to be honest! I think about standing still and playing a shot according to the ball, preferably through the line. I prefer pace too but it doesn't matter if I'm in nick. The Strikers are an incredible outfit so to get over them is great, but, the Final will be interesting at the SCG!
Match End!!!!
Brisbane Heat have won the match by 54 runs. They will be playing the Sydney Sixers in the grand finale of BBL 13. Brisbane Heat - 214/7 (20 Overs) Adelaide Strikers - 160/10 (19.5 Overs)
Josh Brown - 140 (57) | David Payne - 2/17 (3 Overs) Harry Nielsen - 50 (33) | Nathan McSweeney - 3/3 (0.4)
So we have our second finalists for the BBL 13. The Brisbane Heat will be playing the Sydney Sixers in the summit clash. They have been clinical today and won convincingly to make their way.
Earlier in the day, the Heat won the toss and decided to bat first. They had a weak start to their innings losing an early wicket. But after that it was all a Josh Brown show. He played a destructive knock of 140 runs from 57 balls and set the stage for a big total for his team. After his dismissal the Heat lost a bit of momentum and finished their quota of 20 overs with a total of 214/7.
It was always going to be a steep climb for the Strikers. Matthew Short was the key for the team in the huge chase. He started off on a great note and played a few extravagant shots. But just when he was looking ominous, Spencer Johnson netted him. Johnson followed this with another quick wicket of D’Arcy Short and put Heat ahead in the game by the end of the powerplay.
At this stage, the onus was on the man in form, Jake Weatherald to take the Strikers close to the target. But with the two quick wickets and some pretty good bowling by the Heat, the Strikers started to lose momentum. Even though Kelly got a couple of boundaries away, Weatherald was struggling to get going. Johnson picked up Weatherald in the ninth over and had the Strikers in real trouble. At the halfway stage, the Strikers were stationed at 75 for three, with the required rate at 14 runs per over.
Thomas Kelly scored 41 runs from 24 balls and kept the fight alive for the Strikers. But Walter picked him up and increased the pressure. With wickets falling in regular intervals, the required rate kept climbing, The Strikers never really got the momentum to chase such a huge target down. Harry Nielsen played a good hand, but it was never enough to get them close to the target. In the end, the Strikers were bundled out for 160 runs in 19.5 overs as they lost the game by 54 runs.
19.5 Nathan McSweeney to Lloyd Pope, over the wicket, ANOTHER CAUGHT AND BOWLED! ANOTHER FINAL FOR BRISBANE HEAT! Good length flatter ball around off-stump. Pope went for the big swing over mid-wicket on the back foot and top edged it,. McSweeney moved around to his right, steadied himself under it and completed the catch with fingers pointing up!
Lloyd Pope c and b Nathan McSweeney 0 (1b, 0x4, 0x6)
LLoyd Pope, RHB, is the last batter for the Strikers.
19.4 Nathan McSweeney to Harry Nielsen, CAUGHT, FINALLY! Good length ball around off-stump. Nielsen steps out to try and carve it over cover point but outside edges this one. Backward point moved to his left, missed it in his first attempt but got hold of the catch second time around! Harry Nielsen c Wakim b Nathan McSweeney 50 (33b 6x4 1x6)
19.3 Nathan McSweeney to Harry Nielsen, round the wicket, short around off-stump. Nielsen inside edges through the legs of the keeper with an attempted slap through cover for a couple to fine-leg! 50 up for Nielsen here!
19.2 Nathan McSweeney to Cameron Boyce, good length ball around off-stump. Top edged to the left of the short third fielder off the attempted swipe across the line for a single.
Cameron Boyce, RHB, is the next man in.
19.1 Nathan McSweeney to David Payne, over the wicket, CAUGHT AND BOWLED! Good length slower ball around off-stump. Payne went for the slog-sweep and top edged it. The Heat skipper ran back, kept his eyes on the ball and took a neat high catch!
