That will be all from this game with just two games remaining in the tournament now. The Strikers return to the same venue, at the same time tomorrow to take on the Melbourne Renegades in the Challenger. The winner will battle it out with the Perth Scorchers for the title, remember and given that we will have a new winner this time, the remaining two games shape up to be enthralling ones. On behalf of my good friend and co-commentator Pratyush Rohra, this is Sooryanarayanan Sesha once again reminding you to mask up and get yourselves vaccinated in case you haven't already. Goodbye and take care!
One down, two to go indeed for the Strikers. Mind you, if they turn up like they did tonight, the Melbourne Renegades are going to find it tough alright. With a home crowd to back the Strikers too, they will fancy their chances of going the distance after tonight's annihilation of the Brisbane Heat. Keeping this game aside though, the Heat still had a good campaign, finishing third on the league table with a number of dominating performances through and through. It just wasn't to be tonight for the two-time champions but this squad is certainly one to watch out for in the next season.
Amanda-Jade Wellington is the player of the match! Was that ever in doubt?
Here's what she had to say: I couldn't thank my fielders enough for an unbelievable performance today. I felt really confident out there. At the start, I felt the batters were stuck in the crease so I wanted to toss it up and make use of the turn. The players were constantly cheering me on from the dugout as well. (On tomorrow's game) One down, two to go. That's pretty much what I've been thinking about. The girls have played such an incredible season so far and we're finding the momentum towards the end, which is so important in this tournament.
It was a target that was never going to fluster the Strikers despite the magnitude of the contest and the pressure that came with it. 115 was just not to be enough for the Brisbane Heat who capitulated in alarming fashion and once the Strikers started solidly in the Powerplay, the Heat were always playing catch-up.
Nicola Hancock started right on the money and even prized out the dangerous Dane van Niekerk upfront. The body language from the Heat players suggested that they were in for a scrap. With Katie Mack continuing to look in ominous touch though, she kept the scoreboard ticking at a decent rate to put the Strikers in front.
Laura Wolvaardt showed a lot of positivity as well and even as she perished, skipper Tahlia McGrath was there to join forces with Mack and take control of the situation. Smart, percentage cricket that saw a combination of strike rotation and the odd boundary off the loose balls meant that it was always going to be a cruise.
And a cruise it was with the Strikers managing to do it without breaking a sweat. Fittingly, it was Katie Mack who sealed the contest with a boundary that brought up yet another half-century against her name. That said, the day belonged to a certain Amanda-Jade Wellington, who returned a scarcely-believable 5/8 off her four overs to blow the Heat batting lineup to smithereens.
That's how you finish it! In style with a half-century and that is yet another outstanding effort by Katie Mack! She has powered the Strikers into the Challenger while drawing the curtains on the Heat's season. Adelaide Strikers win by 8 wickets with 21 deliveries to spare!
17.0
16.3 Nicola Hancock to Katie Mack, FOUR! MACK-ATTACK FINISHES WITH A HALF-CENTURY! The Adelaide Strikers deliver a clinical performance in the Eliminator to brush aside the Brisbane Heat. Back of a length outside off, Mack flat-bats it over mid-on to find the ropes and bring up her fifth fifty in seven innings. Adelaide Strikers won by 8 wickets (with 21 balls remaining) and will battle it out against the Melbourne Renegades tomorrow.
The scores are level!
16.2 Nicola Hancock to Katie Mack, good length delivery on the off-stump channel, Mack uses that slap-shot once more, chips it over mid-on to get back for a couple
16.2 Nicola Hancock to Katie Mack, wide. Length delivery sliding down the leg side, just 3 to win now.
