Matheesha Pathirana (Player of the Match): It started last season, I came as a replacement but now I am continuously playing. I am really happy. They gave me lot of confidence and are still giving me. Yeah really this is my best bowling figures in my T20 career and I am really happy about that. I feel like I contributed to my team's win. I am a die-hard fan of Cristiano Ronaldo so that's where it's from (his post-wicket celebration).
MS Dhoni (Chennai Super Kings captain): I think it was a very crucial game. If you see the middle part of the points table, it is stacked well. In T20 cricket, you need to have that cushion. It's not something we can get comfortable with because in the middle, 5/6 games are on the same points. Last few games, the result have not gone in our favour so it is good to be on the winning side. Frankly, we were slightly doubtful. I wanted to bat first but the think tank together said that there are chances of rain. I was slightly outnumbered and decided to go with the majority. If there's some kind of a confusion, we sit and talk about it. Ultimately, we decide to go with the majority. The wicket slightly slows down and is good to bat on initially. People who don't have very clean action, batters find very difficult to pick them. In this format where they have to go after him gets difficult. What is important is to keep an eye on how much cricket he plays. I think he should not go anywhere near red ball cricket. Also he should not play a lot of ODI cricket. Make sure he is available for all ICC tournaments and he will be a big asset for Sri Lanka. He was lean last year but he has put on a lot of muscle this time.
Rohit Sharma, Mumbai Indians captain: (Where it went wrong) Everywhere, I guess. We did not bat well enough to put up enough runs on the board for the bowlers. Games like this can happen. We had an off-day as a batting unit. (Decision to bat at 3) I just felt what is comfortable for us. We lost Tilak Varma, so thought we needed Indian batters to bat in the middle overs to tackle their spinners. We lost three wickets in the powerplay and it is quite tough to come back from that situation. (Positives from today) He (Chawla) is bowling really well. The other bowlers need to rally around him. That is what we expect, it is a team game and we want everyone to come to the party. (On two home games) This year, if you look at many teams, there is no such thing as home advantage. At the end of the day, you have to play your best cricket and do well in all three departments. Next two games are quite important for us.
Chennai Super Kings 140/4 (17.4) beat Mumbai Indians 139/8 (20) by 6 wickets
Well, that's as straightforward as they come! Chennai Super Kings have finally won a game against MI at home and it has taken them a staggering 13 years, 4777 days to be precise, to achieve this feat. It all went right for the Super Kings! Right from wining the toss to their bowlers putting up a good show to their batters doing the job for them comfortably, they did not leave any stone unturned.
It was never going to be too difficult a task to chase down 140 runs but it was made simpler by CSK's openers, who got them off to a flier in the powerplay. MI failed to realise that taking the pace off would be effective on this track. Arshad Khan conceded a massive 20-run over to Ruturaj and that set the tone for the rest of the batters to follow. Although Gaikwad departed, it was Rahane who and Dube who joined hands with Conway to do the damage.
All the batters got good starts and that was all that was needed in this contest, with not too many runs to chase down. CSK will be pleased with this win and this takes them to the second place in the points table. It will boost their qualification chances pretty significantly. As for MI, they have four tough fixtures coming up and they will perhaps be needing three wins to qualify. Plenty to chinks in the armour that need to be addressed for them and it will be interesting to see how they can come back in the next contest.
17.4 Arshad Khan to MS Dhoni, DHONI FINISHES IT OFF! CSK WIN BY 6 WICKETS! Dug into the track outside off stump. Dhoni has all the time in the world to just help it into the leg side and collect CSK's sixth victory of the season! Dominant all-round display by CSK and they have now propelled themselves to second spot on the points table!
The chants get louder as the bowler runs in
One run needed and MSD is on strike! Can he do it with a maximum?
17.3 Arshad Khan to Shivam Dube, length delivery outside off stump. Dube winds up and drags it towards long on for a single
