So, that is that from the second qualifier of the 2023 European Cricket League! Hornchurch will face off against Dreux in the summit clash in about an hour and a half, so do keep an eye on our tabs for our coverage of the same! It'll be me, Rajarshi, who'll join Pragadeesh for it. See you there!
Match summary:
Hornchurch win by 7 wickets with 12 balls to spare
Jalpesh Vijay 44*(16) | Marc Whitlock 2/19 (2) Jason van der Merwe 32(13) | Adam Kennedy 1/15 (1)
The fairytale continues for the men from England! A target of 113 was going to be steep in such a high-pressure game, but nobody told that to the Hornchurch batters! The first over of the run-chase pretty much set up the tone for them.
John Matchett almost came back well having gone for a six off the first delivery, but then floated the supposed last ball of the over too high up, was penalised for it, and what was more, that delivery and the extra one were deposited out of the ground by George Hankins!
CIYMS came back well in the next over and a half, dismissing Hankins and Adeel Malik off successive deliveries, but the Paul Murray show went on! The left-handed opener mauled everything that was in his hitting arc.
Just as CIYMS tried to make a comeback towards the middle overs, Jalpesh Vijay went on to free his arms, flex his muscles and increase the boundary count in a big way! The diminutive right-hander went on to dominate the next couple of overs, and in the process, helped Hornchurch get over the line in style!
