That's all that we have from the Tamil Nadu Premier League for today. Chepauk Super Gillies will be taking on the IDream Tiruppur Tamizhans at this very venue tomorrow. Keep an eye on our tabs for our coverage of the same! This is Rajarshi, signing off on behalf of Karthik. Good night!
Ravichandran Ashwin (Dindigul Dragons skipper): They are not players who are known to our public but they have played a lot of T20 cricket. Sarath Kumar has a lot of talent, he has superb bat swing. Myself, Varun and Inder have to bridge the gap with the youngsters. Batting is there, Shivam on his own scored 60 in the Powerplay. In a tournament like this, you need to get into the action. I also feel jet-lagged at the moment. (About the double DRS reviews) When I saw on the big screen, spike on the Ultra-Edge comes up sometimes before it reaches the bat. So, was a little bit upset with the decision.
Ganga Sridhar Raju (Ba11sy Trichy skipper): Quite disappointed with this loss. Plan was to protect the wickets during the Powerplay phase. However, we lost a lot of wickets and didn't get the momentum there itself. Rajkumar batted really well but we couldn't finish off the innings well. Bowlers did well and we went in believing that 120 can be defended!
Varun Chakaravarthy (Player of the Match): I am just focusing on the process. First two overs were difficult as I couldn't generate pace off the surface. The wickets he took were very crucial. Hopefully, I will be here for the full tournament!
Time for the Post-match Presentation!
Shivam Singh (Dindigul Dragons): Good to be on the winning side in the very first game. He is very calm, composed and everyone knows how good he is. He has made the environment very chill and we are enjoying it. Nattu bhai is a class bowler and the ball was doing a bit initially. I thought if I could negotiate the first few overs, it will be easier later. I think we have one of the best bowling attacks. Ash bhai is there, Varun bhai is there, Bhati bhai is there!
Match summary:
Dindigul Dragons win by 6 wickets with 31 balls to spare
They might have taken just a few more overs than what they would have intended when Shivam Singh was batting, but Dindigul Dragons finish the game with a bolstered Net Run Rate! Subodh Bhati performed his job to perfection, as he and Adithya Ganesh steered the Dragons through after a few hiccups in between. A total of 120 was always going to be too much for Ba11sy Trichy to defend, although their bowlers put up a great fight.
Natarajan's opening over made things really interesting early on. He hit the deck hard and accounted for the left-handed Vimal Khumar early on. Shivam Singh and Baba Indrajith looked to consolidate after that, and once he was set, Shivam tore into the Trichy bowlers. It was hitting of the highest quality, and he went on to kill the game off in the powerplay itself.
Shivam had himself to blame for his dismissal, though. He went for an ill-advised reverse-sweep, and was brilliantly held by Jamal. Adithya Ganesh and Indrajith then guided the Dragons towards safety. In trying to finish things off quickly, both Indrajith and C Sarath Kumar perished. Subodh Bhati, though, succeeded in his task, seeing out a few before tonking Dhas for a couple of sixes and sealing the deal. Dindigul Dragons have their first win of the tournament!
14.5 Antony Dhas to Subodh Bhati, OUT OF THE PARK! Full-toss on the stumps, Bhati slogs it way over deep mid-wicket for a maximum. So, Dindigul Dragons start their campaign with a dominant six-wicket victory!
14.4 Antony Dhas to Subodh Bhati, full-toss angling into the stumps, Bhati pushes it to mid-off. No run
14.3 Antony Dhas to Subodh Bhati, short of a length outside-off, Bhati tries to smack it over extra-cover but he miscues it to deep cover. Two runs taken
