Commentary

That will be all from our coverage of this third Ashes Test match then. It was another enthralling game of cricket that kept us glued to the screens for all four days. That's been the case in this series so far, and hopefully, it continues for the remaining two Tests. For now, it's time for us to bid adieu. Right then. It was the England Women's side that kept the Ashes alive with a T20I series win last night. The men's side have done their bit to keep their Test series alive, leaving everything to play for in this English summer. They get the job done at Headingley again, clinging on to the hopes or turning things around. There's going to be a 9-day break before the next game at Old Trafford, a good chance for both teams to recharge their batteries before going at it hammer and tongs again.

Ben Stokes (England captain): Really good performance. Another down to the wire game. It's nice to get over the line and keep the hopes alive. I think it was a bit of both (good record in the fourth innings in this ground and conditions). You have to give credit to Mitchell Marsh the way he played. But, with a quick outfield like this, you can put up runs. Especially, Woakes with the ball did well. We want people coming to impact and make an impact. Moeen Ali also did well. To be honest, I did not even look at the fact that Woakes was out of red ball for such a long time. He is Mr. Consistent. Having him in the game to bat at No. 8 is helpful. Mark Wood is unbelievable. You have someone in your side that can bowl at 95 mph is helpful. If he is not picking wickets from one end, he can do so from the other end with the pressure he generates. Wood walked knowing what he wanted to do. That helped us. Moeen at No. 3 always wanted to impact the game. He told Brendon yesterday, I wanted to crack at 3. In pressure situations like this, Moeen wanted to make an impact. I don't think this is a permanent situation. We would go with the flow of things and maybe think of it. Maybe go with it or not. I think the break will be good for both the teams. The next game will be vital for both the teams. The first three games have been an edge of a seat thriller. This break will be helpful. It is amazing how this place has so many good memories. The support from Western Terrace has been amazing.

Pat Cummins (Australian captain): I think there were a few moments that went back and forth. We lost quick wickets for 20-odd runs on day one. Yesterday, we missed an opportunity as well. (Tail wagging on) We did a bit of the same yesterday but yeah. Seems like a series where each session is so key. It was one of those moments that seemed like we were in control but unfortunately, we lost a couple of wickets. (Warner) I think he was really good at Lord's and we'll back him to come good. I thought 250 was a decent total to give us something. (Mitch Marsh selection headache) Yeah, of course. He's been fantastic. I suppose it's a good problem. He was awesome. Great to see him back in, A few headaches ahead. (Break) We'll take a few days off to try and recharge the batteries before we come back all excited for Manchester.

Mark Wood (Player of the Match): Great win for us to keep the series alive. I was not in the dressing room (with pads on). There was sweaty palms over. It was good performance against the best boys of the world. No. 9 is the highest I will go. Higher than that, I will get nose bleeds. I don't know if it's the quickest. But, coming down the hill helped me. Stokes advised me to keep it short and sharp. I just did that. There are still things to work on especially against the tail. I was pleased with my batting performance. I managed to get some runs here. The support everywhere I go is great. Hope so, I will be fit for both the Tests.

England. Headingley. Keeping the Ashes still well and truly alive. We've read this script before. The hosts had to make sure they get over the line to keep the series alive and they've done everything in their power to make sure do exactly that. It was the captain who led the way for them in the first innings, cutting down Australia's lead to make sure England don't give away a healthy lead. And then, it was the bowlers who did their bit before the batters got the job done.

It was the battle between Mark Wood and Mitchell Marsh that provided a thrill-a-minute action on day one, on a surface that had a bit in it for the bowlers and the batters. High-octane action kept things intriguing on day two before rain dictated a crucial short passage of play on moving day. With 226 needed with all wickets in hand today, England started off as favorites and made sure they don't let that opportunity slip on this occasion.

Mitchell Starc was a force to reckon with alongside Pat Cummins as they kept Australia in the game, chipping away with crucial wickets. It was Starc who really opened the door for them in the final session, getting rid of Stokes and Bairstow, giving his side a serious chance to pull off something special.

However, a certain Yorkshire lad had other plans. It wasn't Root or Bairstow, but Harry Brook who got the job done for England. He was motoring along to lead them to the finish line before stumbling in the middle. His partner, Chris Woakes, made no such mistake though. He kept his cool to get his side over the line with some help from the one and only, Mark Wood, who has had a memorable return to the Test side.

For their performances with bat and ball, you'd think it's going to be one of those two who take the Player of the Match award with them. We'll find out in a bit as the presentations come along.
