Commentary
Following a fairytale first day, Shubman Gill and his men put on a display on Day 2 that left a bit to be desired. The collapse on either side of Lunch and numerous instances of poor fielding will be the fulcrum of conversations tonight. Meanwhile, led by Ollie Pope's century, the hosts have pretty much brought this match back to parity. Hence, tomorrow — Day 3 — "moving day" — you know the rest.

Play starts at 11:00 AM local time [3:30 PM IST]. Join us a bit earlier than that for the build-up. For now, this is the duo of Darpan and Pradeep saying goodbye on the behalf of the entire team. See you soon!

England trail by 262 runs

Summary of the last session: 25 overs, 102 runs, 2 wickets.

Harry Brook wears an expression that screams 'relief' as he trudges off the park. He survived a stern examination in that final over. He got caught and that turned out to be a no-ball, then he received a snorter on the last ball that left him aghast and before he could gather his thoughts, he looked up to see a confident Jasprit Bumrah staring down his soul. But importantly, he lives to fight another day. And that might just sum up the day — India had their moments, however, they failed to barge their foot down the door and going by the scoreboard, it has indeed been England's day.

The morning began with India's captain and his deputy starting off from exactly where they had left off last evening. Gill looked solid and Pant, as you have come to expect with him, did some wild things — there were some falling paddles, bold heaves from halfway down the pitch and some running with only one boot on. And then, of course, a somersault to celebrate his hundred. It seemed like India's morning until Gill decided to try and emulate the vice-captain and got caught at deep square leg. The tide turned. India went from 430/3 to 471 all out. Josh Tongue got the ball to move sharply in the air, and to put it in the language spoken in England's dressing room, feasted on rabbit pie. Though, among his four preys was also the wicket of centurion Pant.

India's bowling was a tale of two ends. We saw in the second innings two kinds of bowlers — Jasprit Bumrah and the others. Zak Crawley fell victim to a pearler in the first over. Ben Duckett could have been dismissed in his fourth, if India's arguably best fielder had not put the catch down. The southpaw made India pay. Him and Ollie Pope feasted on some awry bowling from 'the others' and stitched a 122-run partnership. While Duckett failed to convert his half-century into a big one, his partner — whose place in the side had been questioned by many before the start of the summer — did.

Pope looked busy from the offset. There was a familiar fidgetiness on display when he started, but it all calmed down soon and he went on to score his 9th Test hundred. He got a reprieve too — Yashasvi Jaiswal dropped one off Bumrah's bowling. Joe Root looked tentative too — at least by his standards — but still managed to score 28. England end the day at 209/3, setting it up nicely for the "moving day" tomorrow.

48.6 Jasprit Bumrah to Harry Brook, OH WOW! Almost had Brook of the last ball of the day. What a ripper, absolute ripper from Bumrah to finish things off for the day! Sharp bumper, well directed and hostile stuff it was. Brook on his toes, ends up evading it by just an inch, through to the keeper. It is stumps on day 2!
48.5 Jasprit Bumrah to Harry Brook, short delivery outside the off-stump, Brook sways away from it, through to the keeper.
48.4 Jasprit Bumrah to Harry Brook, follows it up with a searing yorker, right up in the blockhole. Brook digs it out back to the bowler.
Siraj's valiant effort goes in vain. He backtracked, dived and almost even lost his pants in the process.
48.4 Jasprit Bumrah to Harry Brook, IN THE AIR AND SIRAJ HOLDS ON! Oh my goodness, would you believe it? Bumrah oversteps, again and it costs India a wicket this time. Third no-ball of the over and Bumrah takes the wicket of that, it doesn't matter anyways. Sharp bumper, Brook rushed with the pull and top edged it in the air. Siraj running back from short mid-wicket, dives and clings on.
48.4 Jasprit Bumrah to Harry Brook, OH! Well disguised slower one, but well watched by Brook there, full and dips into off-stump. Brook digs it out back to the bowler. Bumrah oversteps again, another no-ball has been called.
48.3 Jasprit Bumrah to Harry Brook, back of a length, in the channel again. Firm defensive push towards covers from Brook.
