Right then, it's been quite a one-sided contest this as the Titans cruise to another win! They'll be brimming with confidence at the halfway stage while MI have been repeating the same mistakes that they've made previously in the season too. Nonetheless, at the halfway mark of the league stages, the tournament is set up beautifully and we are in for a scintillating month of cricketing action ahead! On that note, this is the duo of Maanas Upadhyay and Sooryanarayanan Sesha bidding you adieu! Good night!
Abhinav Manohar is the Player of the Match for his game-changing 21-ball 42. Here's what he has to say: I'm lucky to be in this franchise. In our net sessions I get to bat as much as I want. It gives me the chance to hit a lot of balls. I'm very happy. I think I'm gifted to time the ball well. To play at this level is special, it feels like a dream. This game I couldn't really go from ball one because of the situation but it was good to go out. The run-rate wasn't too high but it was good to play my game.
Hardik Pandya (Gujarat Titans captain): That has always been the motto about me playing the sport. I've taken the call more on the situation. Captaincy is something where I always back my instinct and so far it has paid off. Me and Ashish Nehra have a very similar mindset and 99% of the times it pays off. Today we decided to bowl the spinners because their batters like pace. It was just about closing the game early because we lost a couple of close games but today I didn't want to take it deep. Credit to the support staff as well for making him (Abhinav Manohar) bat two hours in the nets. He's batting the best in our side when it comes to death hitting. We are looking forward to more hitting by him.
Rashid Khan (Gujarat Titans, and holder of the Purple Cap): It's good so far. Just a few things I'm working on and trying to be consistent with my line and length. Happy to get wickets but at the same time need to work on some areas where I don't want to bowl but it's just going there. That's why those first few overs, keeping them quiet (was important). That was the main thing in mind - to hit the right area and mix it up. It's great to have him (Noor Ahmad) inside and share that bowling partnership with him. He joined GT last year and we played U19 together before that. He's working so hard. Last year he was asking a lot of questions even when I was working out in the gym. He wanted to be that much better. I'm so so happy for him that he's delivering and it's great news for GT and also for Afghanistan.
Rohit Sharma (Mumbai Indians captain): (Experienced bowlers leaking too many runs) That's a little disappointing. We pretty much had control of the game till about 15 overs. The last few overs went for way too many runs. Just about execution - at that point of time, we just have to execute what's right on that particular pitch. And we failed to do that which is why in the end they got way too many runs. (Reassessing bowling first?) Every team has different strengths. We've got a very good batting lineup so we back ourselves to go out there and achieve the target. We didn't start well. There is a lot of dew so if we had batted well you never know. We came pretty close in the last game while chasing 215. But we didn't start well with the bat and that is not the right thing when you're chasing 200+. You need to create that partnership and bat as long as possible. We didn't have too many batters batting there towards the last few overs.
Shubman Gill 56(34) | David Miller 46(22) | Piyush Chawla 2-34(4) Nehal Wadhera 40(21) | Noor Ahmad 3-37(4) | Rashid Khan 2-27(4)
Whew! A superlative performance from the Gujarat Titans and they have comprehensively beaten the Mumbai Indians! They have been simply terrific tonight in all departments and the Mumbai side was completely blown away! Playing at home, the Titans have managed to defend a total - something they have not been very good at. It has been as clinical as they would've wanted and the Titans will have gotten a massive boost to their Net Run Rate in the points table.
Chasing 208 runs, MI needed to get off to a flier in the powerplay but they just failed to do that. They could not deal with the swing that was being extracted by the GT pacers and kept searching for the ball as it fizzed past the outside edges. In a bid to increase the run-rate, it was Rohit Sharma who departed and was shortly followed by Kishan, who's agonising stay at the crease was ended by Rashid Khan.
Tilak Varma could not hang around for too long but Green joined hands with Surya to stitch a partnership. However, with the required run-rate on the rise continuously, Green failed to get the better of Noor Ahmad, losing his wicket in the process while Tim David departed for a golden duck, playing a full toss right into the hands of the fielder. Wadhera was mighty impressive while Piyush Chawla chipped in with a few runs. However, all that did was reduce the margin of defeat.
Well, MI have a lot of thinking to do before their next game against RR. They've got plenty of time to go before that and they will have to ponder over the combinations. All seems to be going perfectly for the Gujarat Titans and this takes them to the second position in the points table. They will be pleased with how they've gone so far and have made steady progress towards defending their title.

19.6 Mohit Sharma to Riley Meredith, SWING AND A MISS! Another cutter on a full length on leg stump as Meredith backs away and swings for the bleachers. Doesn't connect as it keeps low to slant to the keeper and it completes a clinical defense by the defending champions. Gujarat Titans win by 55 runs!
19.5 Mohit Sharma to Riley Meredith, back of a length delivery on off stump. Meredith backs away to clough his flat-batted attempt to the bowler
