That's all we have for now though. This is Pratyush Rohra, signing off on behalf of my partner, Shashwat Kumar. We hope you enjoyed our coverage as much as we enjoyed bringing it to you. Goodnight!
Right then. Gujarat Titans set their date with destiny on Sunday, taking on the Chennai Super Kings. It'll be one against two. Apprentice against the master. Defending champions against the four-time champions. Shall we say more? It's going to be a packed house in Ahmedabad on Sunday, and we'll be right here to take you through all the action, of course.
Shubman Gill is the Player of the Match. Here is what he has to say: It's all about playing ball-to-ball and over-to-over. There was an over where I hit three sixes and that's probably when I realized it was my day. It was a good wicket, so we needed runs on the board. [Sixes] Not really a conscious decision. You keep wanting to grow as a batter but I believe that the belief is more important. Obviously, it helps when you're coming off runs in the international circle. Once I start well, I know I'm in. [Form in 2023] It's been a combination of a lot of things. Last year from the West Indies tour, I shifted gears. I was injured in IPL 2021 and was out for a couple of months. That's when I made some technical changes around December when I was called up for the New Zealand series after the T20 World Cup. [Expectations] These are all factors outside the ground. Once you cross the ropes, it's about setting the rhythm in the middle. [Best he's played] Yeah, it's probably my best innings in the IPL.
Hardik Pandya (Gujarat Titans captain): A lot of hard work has gone behind the guys who have done well. It's just the reflection of their hard work. [Gill] The clarity he has this year and the confidence that he is carrying is amazing. He never looked rushed or not in control. It looked like someone was throwing down and he was hitting it. He is a superstar who will do big things for the franchise and even the country. Conversations are always there and it's lead with me. Energy is something I look for. Every individual takes ownership and it's great for us. [Rashid] He's someone who comes and changes the momentum. We've spoken about Rashid but sometimes, what he does, I'm lost for words. We have to play good cricket. Irrelevant of the result, if we put in our hundred percent, we can be happy. It's going to be a fun game to play.
Mohit Sharma (Gujarat Titans): I was a bit lucky to bag the five wickets. It was a bit difficult. The way Surya and Tilak batted, it seemed like the game could have slipped from our hands. I knew when Surya was against me, there isn't room for experimentation. He already had 2-3 shots for every ball and that's what we had discussed. It's okay to concede sixes of length balls but stick to the plan. Once he was dismissed, we knew the game was in our bag. We've lost some games from those situations and have won some. So, we knew the game is not over until we're back in the dressing room.
Rohit Sharma, Mumbai Indians captain: (On the score and Gill's innings) It was a great total. Shubman batted really well. The wicket was good - we thought they got 20-25 runs extra. With the batting line-up we had, we were very positive. We could not stitch long partnerships and we just lost our way a little bit. (On the pitch) We thought about giving it a good crack, wanted to be positive. We had to make full use of the powerplay and that did not go well for us. I thought Surya and Green batted well in the middle but we wanted one batter to take the game deep. Anything can happen. It is a good pitch to bat on but yeah, you have to give credit where it is due. Gujarat played well. (On having to replace Ishan Kishan because of a concussion) It was something we did not expect. He had a bit of a concussion. It was a last-minute change but as a team, you have to adapt to different conditions and different situations. Not going to look at that - just did not play well enough to win. (Biggest positive) Finishing third gives us a lot of confidence. Our batting was the biggest positive - some of the young players that came through. (On the bowling) All the bowling teams have been challenged this season. We had a great bowling performance (before this game). You have to give credit to Shubman - I hope he continues that form. (On David's batting position today) We have given Tim a certain role throughout the season. We wanted Vishnu to come in and play his game. It did not come off today but I am not going to look at any judgement that went wrong. Just that Gujarat came out on top today.
Game, set, match. Gujarat Titans will have a chance to defend their crown as they make it to another IPL final. It's back-to-back finals for them, this time setting a date with the four-time champions, the Chennai Super Kings. Having brushed aside the Mumbai Indians in this contest, they'll be going into that final on a high as they try to achieve what only these two sides have done - defend their IPL title.
It was all set up by their prince, Shubman Gill playing a stupendous hand to score a scintillating century. It was his ton that helped MI make it to the playoffs, and it's his ton that knocks the five-time champions out. He as batting on a different level and single-handedly helped his side post a mammoth total on the board, which proved to be too much for Mumbai in the end.
With some unfortunate injuries, they didn't get off to the best of starts in the innings with Nehal Wadhera forced to open the batting alongside Rohit Sharma. Neither managed to give the team the kind of start they would have wanted but Tilak Varma played a fabulous cameo to get them back on track in the powerplay. Once Rashid Khan got rid of him, Green and SKY did a fairly decent job to recover and take the game forward.
However, once those two were dismissed, the innings came crumbling down. Josh Little got the crucial wicket of Green to open the door for Gujarat and it was Mohit Sharma who made the most of that, coming in late at the backend of the innings and bagging a five-for, recording his best figures in the tournament. So, it's the Gujarat Titans who come out on top in a rather comprehensive manner in the end. Stick around to hear the post-game reactions.
18.2 Mohit Sharma to Kumar Kartikeya, MOHIT HAS FIVE, AND GT ARE IN YET ANOTHER FINAL! Slot ball on middle and leg stump. Kartikeya lays back and tries to mousse it over long on. Gets decent contact but not enough elevation to clear Miller at long on! GT will have a shot at defending their title; MI's campaign, after all the ups and downs, finally comes to an end tonight!
18.1 Mohit Sharma to Jason Behrendorff, slower delivery on a length outside off stump. Behrendorff drags it towards deep mid wicket for a single
Well, the stage for the final is pretty much set then. The Gujarat Titans will have a chance to defend their crown at their home ground against the Chennai Super Kings on Sunday. As for the Mumbai Indians, they can be incredibly proud of their campaign and to make it as far as they have.
