The inevitable has happened. Both teams returned to their hotels long back and now the umpires have declared that there will be no more play possible. India and England would have enjoyed playing on this surface, but the heavens above had some other ideas. The schedule of warm-up matches for both teams will be like this: India will be facing the Netherlands on 3rd October at Thiruvananthapuram England will be facing Bangladesh on 2nd October at the same venue i.e. Guwahati
Update, 5:42 PM: Rohit Sharma warmed up well at the toss by winning it this afternoon. And that's all the warming up we're going to see today - the game has been called off.
Update, 5:39 PM: Nothing new to add. Except that with 90 minutes needed for the ground staff to get the field fit for play and the cutoff time being 7:30 PM, a mere 21 minutes is what we have for all practical purposes. The rain has to subside for good by then else we might just get an official announcement at last regarding this game.
The rain can dampen the ground but not the spirits of the Indian spectators, who will flock in attendance to watch their heroes take the field. Click on the link below to see how the fans in Assam greeted India's stalwarts - Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli
Update, 4:45 PM: Nothing new to add. There are no teams at the venue in the first place while the covers haven't moved. It's inevitable and only the official word is pending.
Update, 3.53 PM: We're hearing that the Indian team has already left for the hotel. That could well be it then...
Update, 3.50 PM: We have learnt that the cutoff time for a contest is 7.30 PM IST, but there's every chance this gets called off well before that. The rain is back as well! Maybe, we may not have a contest today!
It's going to take a good while to see the Indian bowlers in action today. In the meantime though, here's a look at five of the best performances by an Indian in World Cup warmups of yore!👇
