That brings us to the end of our coverage of the 1st semi final. Happy days for India supporters, another ICC tournament final beckons for the women! It remains to be seen which one of England or Australia go up against them on Sunday. This is Rajarshi, signing off on behalf of myself and Pratyush. See you later!
Shafali Verma, India captain: It feels really good to be in the final, the way the team has performed has been superb. Everyone has performed the role assigned to them to perfection. Of course, we learned a lot from the mistakes we made in the defeat to Australia, we have worked on them, and the bowlers bowled brilliantly today. (On her birthday celebrations tomorrow) We'll complete our preparations for the finals tomorrow, and then celebrate.
Izzy Sharp (New Zealand captain): (Middle order experience in the tournament) Probably not ideal but credit to India. They came at us with some great bowling. It definitely would have been (great to qualify) but it's a shame it wasn't our day today. (Experience as captain) It's been absolutely awesome. It's a huge honor. Thank you for the tournament and the staff. I just want to say a huge thank you to our supporters back home and here.
Parshavi Chopra is the Player of the Match. Here is what she has to say: Feeling really delighted! It's a huge game for us (the semi-final). It's the first World Cup, so I'm very delighted with this performance. (Her bowling and role in the side) The grip wasn't great today. The role is to bowl wicket-to-wicket and pile up the dots to put pressure on the opponents.
Match summary: India won the toss and opted to bowl
India 2nd innings 110/2 (14.2 Overs) Shweta Sehrawat 61*(45) | Anna Browning 2/18 (3.2)
India win by 8 wickets with 34 balls to spare and qualify for the final of the ICC Under19 Women's T20 World Cup
The only time the match seemed 50-50 was when both the teams took the field at the start of play. Since then, India have always had a strangle hold of things. Despite showing signs of mediocrity on occasions, they were too good for New Zealand in all departments today. It was a memorable World Cup for the Kiwis as well - they were unbeaten coming into the semi-finals, but it comes to an end today.
Walking out to chase 108, India did not give a chance to them, as Shafali and Shweta pretty much killed the game in the powerplay itself. While Shafali departed soon after, Sehrawat took the chase by the scruff of the neck and found pretty much every gap there was on the field. She was helped by some ordinary bowling by the New Zealanders, who failed to bowl according to plan. Sehrawat brought up a well-deserved half-century eventually, and Soumya Tiwari gave her company for the most of it. Gongadi Trisha joined her after Tiwari departed to Anna Browning, and she and Sehrawat got India past the line with comfort and plenty of time to spare.
"Chak de India" rings across the ground as Sehrawat punches the air in delight! The Indian dugout are cock-a-hoop, they are the first finalist of the inaugural ICC Women's U19 T20 World Cup!
14.2 Anna Browning to Shweta Sehrawat, FOUR! SEHRAWAT LEADS INDIA INTO THE FINALS! She jumps in the air in delight and lets out a roar. She's been sensational in this tournament so far. Full delivery outside off, allowing Sehrawat to lean into the drive through extra cover to find the ropes. India win by 8 wickets!
14.1 Anna Browning to Shweta Sehrawat, a tad short outside the off-stump. Sehrawat hangs back to guide it to short third, no run
India are a brace away from booking a spot in the final. The Indian team are huddled up in a line, waiting for the winning runs to be hit!
