That's it from the first match of the day in BPL 2024! Here is the pair of Sourabh and Bidipto signing off for now! Adios!
It was for the first time in this season of the Bangladesh Premier League that the team batting first was able to successfully defend a score. With that win, Khulna Tigers make it 3 out of 3 and are sitting comfortably on the top of the table. After a scratchy start, the Tigers had finished their innings with momentum on their side with the help of good innings from Mohammad Nawaz and Dasun Shanaka. They carried the momentum into the second innings as well. The Rangpur Riders were never in the chase from the beginning itself when Babar Azam got out to his teammate from Pakistan, Moammad Wasim Jr. Dasun Shanaka had a day-out as he got 4 wickets with the ball as well. Rangpur Riders kept on losing wickets in regular intervals and ended up folding well short of the target despite a fighting half-century from Mohammad Nabi.
Khulna Tigers won by 28 runs Mohammad Nawaz 55(34) | Dasun Shanaka 4/16(3) Mohammad Nabi 50(30) | Hasan Mahmud 3/29(4)
Anamul Haque (Khulna Tigers' captain) - We did not bat well in the powerplay, except for Lewis. But, Nawaz and Shanaka got us to a good score. We had faith in our bowlers. Bowled really well in the powerplay. We have some really good bowlers from the likes of the experienced Wasim and Nasum.
Dasun Shanaka, Player of the match - Our bowlers really bowled well in the powerplay, that made it tough for their batters. Very happy to contribute in both the departments, hope to continue the same.
It is now time for the post-match presentation!
Nurul Hasan (Rangpur Riders captain): We did not bat well today. We now need to find out the way to comeback from here. The way we started with the bat needs to change. The top-order has to take more responsibility here. The wicket was good but we need to find the right way of scoring more runs in the power play.
18.4 Mohammad Wasim to Mohammad Nabi, THAT WILL DO IT! KHULNA TIGERS WIN THEIR THIRD MATCH IN A ROW! Low full toss outside off-stump. Nabi glides it away from the body to the short third man region but in the air. The fielder there then makes no mistake in completing the catch to his left! The third umpire confirms that is is not a bump ball!
Mohammad Nabi c Afif Hossain b Mohammed Wasim 50 (30b, 4x4, 3x6)
18.3 Mohammad Wasim to Mohammad Nabi, back of a length around off-stump. Nabi swung and missed trying to hoick it around over mid-wicket off the back foot. It kept low too!
18.2 Mohammad Wasim to Mohammad Nabi, good length slower ball around off-stump. Slashed to the right of deep backward point from the crease for a couple. Nabi goes to 50!
