So, that will be all for today from the Eden Gardens. But do switch tabs and join us live on the other IPL game going on at the moment between Delhi Capitals and Sunrisers Hyderabad in Delhi. This is the pair of Pratyush and Bidipto, saying good bye. Keep following Sportskeeda!
Josh Little has been adjudged the Player of the Match! Here is what he has to say.
Josh Little: I just spoke to Hardik before we played and talked about keeping things simple by hitting the good length. The first game of the IPL was slightly nervous for me, but now, I'm settling into rhythm and hoping to deliver more performances like this. It's all about hitting the good length and let the ball do the talking for me.
Hardik Pandya (Gujarat Titans captain): Noor Ahmad and Josh Little got us back in the game and kept us in the hunt. Rahmanullah Gurbaz was threatening to take the game away from us. So, I'll take their performance today for sure. I must say, our players are humble enough to give it their all no matter what. That is why, someone or the other is stepping up every single time. Vijay Shankar is fitter, more confident and hungry for more. His hard work is paying off, big time!
It is time for the post-match presentation!
David Miller: It was a great win again. The guys set up a great platform. They're doing a superb job upfront. Chasing can always get hair raising but batting with someone like Vijay was great. He needed one six and then he got away. Watching from the other end was quite nice. (Behind the scenes) It's the cliched thing of sticking to your processes. We've got a great balance in the team. The seamers are great up front and the spinners in the middle. We're always competing in every game and not getting blown away. It's about staying in the hunt for as long as possible. The confidence comes from winning games and we've been doing that. (Discussion with Shankar) We knew they had really good spinners and had to pull the trigger at some stage. It gives us the confidence to go after the bowlers. As that flows, you keep going, I suppose. (Little) Really nice to see him bowling the way he can. Nice to see a left arm seamer. He adds a lot to the team. It's about continuing his form. Really chuffed for him. (Playing at Eden Gardens) It's a dream come true. It's spectacular to see the fans supporting after every game and it's a privilege to be out here and watch Vijay smack it around.
Nitish Rana (Kolkata Knight Riders captain): If you don't take your chances, you will end on the losing side. All our games have been like that. If we do well in all three departments, the results might come in our favour. We batted decently but batting and fielding didn't work out. We have to find a way to make that click. The small moments are equally important. If you take your catches, execute your plans and do the small things right, you can get the win.
Gujarat Titans win by 7 wickets with 2 overs and one ball to spare!
The start was a decent one for Gujarat Titans. Shubman Gill and Wriddhiman Saha made sure that they got off to a solid start. But then, came a phase of play when the Kolkata Knight Riders came roaring back with wickets and dot balls. But after the second strategic time-out, it was the David Miller and Vijay Shankar show that handed the visitors their 4th straight victory on the road!
Shubman Gill played well to reach 49 but threw it away with an unnecessary lofted shot on the charge which got well gobbled up by long-on. Hardik Pandya was dismissed just before that to a quick and good length delivery from an impressive Harshit Rana, who showed that he has what it takes to rattle the top brass. And the spin from KKR made sure that the web was getting prepared to trap the remainder of the opposition batting.
It all came down to the last over of Suyash Sharma! David Miller got two balls that were tossed up and smashed both those for sixes. From then on, everything changed! Suyash went on to drop Miller in the next over off the bowling of Andre Russell. Then onwards, it was the Vijay Shankar show against Varun Chakravarthy and Nitish Rana!
He hit one shot after another against these two spinners that either cleared the rope or reached it. An impressive half-century from a resurgent right-hand batter that was not on the cards it seemed, from a KKR point of view! They were all taken by surprise.
The KKR fielding needs a strong look-in. They gave away lots of runs by misfields and dropped a crucial catch at a crucial stage. Going forward, these need to be improved. They remain on 6 points and have a lot of catching up to do in order to make the playoffs.
Gujarat Titans have now moved up to 12 points from 8 games and are well on course to become the first team to reach the playoffs.
17.6 Nitish Rana to Vijay Shankar, wide. An anti-climatic end to maintain Gujarat Titans' 100% away record. Fires it down to the leg side and Shankar missed his sweep. It's another convincing run chase from the defending champions. GT win by 7 wickets with 13 balls to spare.
Vijay Shankar reaches 50 in only 24 balls!
17.5 Nitish Rana to Vijay Shankar, SIX! FIFTY FOR VIJAY SHANKAR! Fullish on the pads to try and cramp the batter for room but he wasn't having it. Brings out another slog sweep that clears the long leg boundary and levels the scores!
