Finally, something for the LA Knight Riders to cheer about but alas, it has come too late for them to be able to break into the top four. They will return home tonight with happier faces but will know that they have to turn up a lot better next time around. As for the Orcas, they've endured a loss and while it could have gone their way, they will take heart from the fact that it has possibly come at the right time. One more game to go for them in the round-robin phase and they'll want to return to winning ways ahead of the playoffs.
Sunil Narine (Los Angeles Knight Riders captain): You would like winning in anything so it's good to win. No one likes to lose. The games we lost, we had opportunities to capitalize and we didn't. At the end of the day we still played good cricket. There were games we could have won but we couldn't pull it by the neck. Next time hopefully we are the ones getting across the line. (On the tournament) It's been good - first time here playing in these conditions. It's been good, especially the fans. As players you didn't know what to expect but the amount of people supporting cricket was great.
Wayne Parnell (Seattle Orcas captain): Obviously class there from Rilee Rossouw, he showed his experience. It's a game of inches and obviously we're on the wrong side today. We will debrief - our mantra has been to be consistent whether we're winning or losing. There's always room for improvement and we'll have the same chat today.
Who else but Rilee Rossouw as today's Player of the Match. Here's what he has to say: It's a different feeling - we've lost a couple in a row. When we've been bad, we've been really bad. I thought we put in a complete performance today and luckily for me it came off. The previous game, the wicket was playing up and down and a bit slow. It's not something we're used to playing around the world but we had to adapt.
Adam Zampa (Los Angeles Knight Riders): We certainly haven't played our best cricket throughout the tournament. Going into the last game, if we had last this one and gone winless it would have been a sad feeling. Pretty nice to finish with a win and it's a bonus. Mixed bag to be honest - I bowled okay throughout the tournament. I think it's been the story of our tournament as a team - just couldn't get it right at the key moments. Nice to get wickets but would have been better to be on the winning side. Rilee's an experienced campaigner and has played a lot of T20 cricket. He keeps a calm head out there. His innings on a tough wicket was really impressive. It's been great (this tournament). To think that this competition has started and to get involved with it is great.
Match Summary: Los Angeles Knight Riders beat Seattle Orcas by 2 wickets.
Familiar woes with the bat for the Los Angeles Knight Riders but this time, they manage to scrape past the finish line. And they owe a lot to Rilee Rossouw who managed to keep a calm head on his shoulders to steer them home from the abyss. Chasing 171 wasn't going to be easy with the pitch not quite a belter as such but another horrific start left the Knights in a real limbo.
Cameron Gannon snuffed out Jaskaran Malhotra and Gajanand Singh early on but the body blow to the Knights was dealt in the form of Jason Roy's wicket as Imad Wasim castled him. They were tottering yet again and while Saif Badar promised much, he couldn't deliver either. It seemed as though it was going to fall on the shoulders of Andre Russell yet again and while he was happy to treat the good deliveries with respect, he didn't quite get his timing right early on.
It wasn't the case with Rossouw, however as he middled the ball well throughout his stay. Both batters were happy to play their shots and ensure that the asking rate didn't get out of bounds. A partnership developed and it had the Seattle Orcas clutching at straws although one shot too many from Russell saw him depart against the run of play.
Sunil Narine and Shadley van Schalkwyk didn't shy away from playing their shots although their dismissals were rather untimely, leaving Rossouw with the job of finishing it all by himself. Adam Zampa didn't look to hand the southpaw the strike either as he played some shots of his own before perishing but beyond a point, it was all about Rossouw as far as the Knights were concerned. Spencer Johnson wisely realized that and ensured that he did his bit to get his partner on strike on a regular basis.
Even as wickets fell, the runs kept coming at a good clip and in a way, that helped ease the burden on Rossouw too. He then pounced on some really ordinary bowling at the death and walloped the ball over the fence, racking up a half-century and then getting the job done in style as he saw the Knight Riders past the finish line. A win at long last thanks to a brilliant effort from the South African and the Orcas, on the other hand, have been consigned to their first defeat of the tournament.
If there ever was a shot of authority to stamp your dominance on this chase, it was that. Take a bow, Rilee Rossouw! A knock to savor for a long, long time as the Knight Riders finally have something to smile about.
19.1 Imad Wasim to Rilee Rossouw, SIX! SEALED IN STYLE! Rilee Rossouw you beauty! Wide of off stump on a full length and he lines it up by sitting on one knee and launching it high and long over extra cover. Sends it soaring into the crowd and a celebration follows from the South African - what a magnificent performance this has been. And finally, after trying and trying hard, Los Angeles Knight Riders break their duck with a 2-wicket win!
Imad Wasim [3.0-0-19-1] to bowl the final over of the game. Over the wicket.
