Toss Update: MI New York have won the toss and elected to field!
Meanwhile, Texas Super Kings wear a familiar look to the squad they had in MLC 2024. TSK made a fine run in the previous season as they went till the Challenger where the San Francisco Unicorns sealed a close 10-run victory. The familiar opening pair of skipper Faf du Plessis and Devon Conway who flourished last season will be back together in MLC 2025 as well. While Marcus Stoinis and Noor Ahmad are once again a part of the TSK set-up, there are some new faces in the form of Daryl Mitchell, Donovan Ferreira, Nandre Burger, Akeal Hosein and Adam Milne.
Noor Ahmad and Marcus Stoinis were the leading wicket-takers for TSK last year with nine scalps each while left-arm seamer Zia-ul-Haq also picked up seven wickets. There is the leg-spinner, Mohammad Mohsin as well who will be expected to form a quality spin trio along with Noor and Akeal.
There are a couple of big domestic signings as well in the form of Shubham Ranjane and Smit Patel who are certain to bring in quality to the TSK side. Like de Kock, Ranjane also switches to TSK colours after representing Seattle Orcas in the 2024 edition. TSK fans will also hope that they see more of Saiteja Mukkamalla this season given his recent performances for USA.
MI New York will want to come back strong after having an underwhelming 2024 MLC campaign. Despite making it to the play-offs, MINY won only two matches in the league stage and were also knocked out in the Eliminator by Texas Super Kings. Their batting, in particular, struggled with Nicholas Pooran and Rashid Khan being the top-scorers for the team with 180 and 162 runs respectively. That department has been strengthened to an extent with the inclusion of Quinton de Kock who was part of Seattle Orcas previously. There are also fine all-rounders like Kieron Pollard, George Linde, Michael Bracewell and Delano Potgieter apart from domestic options like Monank Patel, Heath Richards, Agni Chopra, Tajinder Dhillon who are set to provide fire-power to the batting line-up.
In terms of the bowling unit, MINY are sure to miss the services of Rashid Khan who was their leading wicket-taker in MLC 2024 with 10 scalps. Trent Boult who took nine wickets in the last season along with Naveen-ul-Haq are expected to form a nice pairing. The spin department is also stacked decently even in the absence of Rashid Khan as the likes of George Linde, Michael Bracewell, Nosthush Kenjige provide ample quality. On the whole, MINY will hope that the team flourishes under the new captain Nicholas Pooran who takes over the reins from Kieron Pollard.
