Well, that is all we have from Sportskeeda today! Just one more PSL game out there from the group stages and after that, we will head into the playoffs. Earlier in the day, Quetta Gladiators beat Karachi Kings. However, that wasn't enough as their playoff hopes ended after the second match.
India beat West Indies to seal the T20I series 3-0 while Sri Lanka got the better of Australia in today's blockbuster Super Sunday. Tomorrow, we will be back with the final PSL 2022 group stage match alongside some ECL action. Hope your day went as smooth as Mohammad Rizwan's knock and was filled with joy like Imran Tahir's celebration.
This is Abhishek alongside Soorya signing off. But stay tuned to Sportskeeda to follow more cricket action.
Mohammad Rizwan (Multan Sultans captain): The pitch was good. After some days, there is going to be a Test match. So, it was a good practice. We kept on losing wickets, so we had to play differently. The playoffs is coming so we had to give opportunities to new bowlers and changed the batting order a bit as well. We should go match-by-match and trust the process. Winning and losing is not in our hands, we just have to do our work and believe in Allah!
Asif Ali (Islamabad United captain): Today, the ball didn't come to the bat. It skidded low and the batting was made tough. Quarantine of a couple of foreign players will get over and they should join us soon. . Shadab should be fit in a few games. It was his efforts only in the beginning that has helped us reach the playoffs.
Imran Tahir (Player of the Match): Yes, it was (some spin on offer). I would have bowled according to my plan even if it was not there. I am just pleased how it came and aided me. It's been a good competition (celebration style). But, a few years back, Dahani would not have enough to catch me. There is good vibes in the team. I am going to keep this hairstyle even in the playoffs. Nothing new.
Multan Sultans win their ninth out of ten group stage matches in PSL 2022!
Not every captain's knock is about upping the ante and helping their side chase the target with some humongous shots. Sometimes all they need to do is anchor the innings and stabilize their team to guide them to victory in a low-scoring game.
Mohammad Rizwan did exactly that as his outing of 51 runs from 42 deliveries helped Multan Sultans post their ninth victory in PSL 2022. In a pitch that aided the batters a little, Rizwan middled almost every delivery he chose to strike and got beaten none times.
Liam Dawson gave Islamabad United an early ray of hope as he scalped three wickets in the powerplay. Shan Masood shimmied down too much and Azam Khan wasted no time in clipping the bails. The ball went through Aamer Azmat's bat and pad before striking the stumps while Khushdil Shah skied it into long off where Asif Ali gobbled it with ease.
Tim David came up with a quickfire 17-run from 12 balls but he too went back to the hut after losing his patience. Rizwan and Willey knew all they had to do was bat till the end and keep the boundary-hitting for a pause. A 35-ball boundary drought ended after the latter got an inside edge that sailed across the ropes and there was no looking back from there.
The duo waited for Liam Dawson to finish his fourth over before taking Marchant de Lange by the scruff of the neck and dispatching him for a 4 and a 6. With just one run required, Rizwan decided to go for a maximum against Danish Aziz to get another half-century.
Not much to praise for the Islamabad bowlers apart from Dawson as the Multan batters averted their threat with some smart running between the wickets. They displayed grit and patience to not play loose shots and see of the chase comfortably.
Islamabad can take solace from the fact that they have made it to the playoffs as Multan had to win the game in 3.5 overs to keep Quetta Gladiators' hopes alive. Presentations up in a few moments...
Rilee Rossouw: I'm fine. Just got a bruised thumb and thought it was best to get it rested. If needed I would have batted but glad I wasn't required. We've put so much hardwork and we've played like champions. To win 9 out of 10 games in the PSL is not easy. The wicket played a major role today - it was very slow and low and it was good for the boys to play on pitches like this. You never know what you'll come across in the Qualifier and the finals. (On his skipper Rizwan) He mentions 'champions' all the time and that's what we strive to be.
Only one was needed but Rizwan makes sure he gets his 50 with that MAXIMUM!
18.0
17.2 Danish Aziz to Mohammad Rizwan, SIX! FINISHES IT IN STYLE DOES THE SKIPPER! Skips down the track and lofts this quick length delivery inside out and over the extra cover fence as he uses his wrists to great effect. High and handsome as it brings up his half-century as well in the process! 9 out of 10 in the league phase for Multan Sultans - they beat Islamabad United by 6 wickets with 16 deliveries to spare!
17.1 Danish Aziz to Mohammad Rizwan, arm ball outside off, Rizwan hangs back and knocks it straight to cover. Dot ball!
