Thanks a lot for joining us- Mohul Bhowmick and Arya Sekhar Chakraborty- for this game in the World Cup. New Zealand take on Afghanistan at the same venue on 18 October whereas Bangladesh travel to Pune to take on hosts India a day later. Until next time, goodbye!
Kane Williamson, captain of New Zealand: I don't know a lot at the moment about the hit. I have a scan tomorrow and I am hoping that it turns out to be okay. It was nice to build the partnerships and take the game deep. Midway through the powerplay (when we were bowling), we realised that we had to hit the deck hard. The seamers had a chat amongst themselves and decided to carry on with that. The spinners too decided to add a bit of pace. The seam bowlers were really effective today, and I am extremely happy for Lockie (Ferguson), who runs in hard every time. It was nice to build partnerships and scrape through the tough periods. This was a great team performance. Daryl Mitchell is a competitor and he continues to do well. He is a 'team-first' guy.
Najmul Hossain Shanto, stand in captain of Bangladesh: We did well with the bat but could have done better. The wicket seemed to be doing well and to me, it seemed to be a decent surface. I think we have to take more responsibilities with the bat in hand. This was a good wicket, and we should have been more careful against the new ball. Today, all three fast bowlers were impressive for us. Today, every bowler showed their character. If they continue to do this, it will definitely help us going forward. If we bat well in the next game, it will be a completely different ball game.
Lockie Ferguson is the Player of the Match: It was another classic sort of a team effort. Everyone bowled well and created pressure and I just did my role. Look compared to Hyderabad, this had more bounce. Wanted to use the bounce with the new ball, wanted to push them back. That was a good all-round performance from the boys. Early stages sure but the group is enjoying each other's company and we are looking forward to the next game. Haven't played much here, playing Afghanistan next on this wicket. Hopefully it's the same.
New Zealand capped off a fantastic performance with both bat and ball with this run-chase. Although Kane Williamson had to walk off the pitch retired hurt, Daryl Mitchell and Glen Phillips ensured that there were no hiccups for the Kiwis.
Bangladesh appeared to be listless today and made a lot of errors on the field. Although Mustafizur Rahman and Shoriful Islam managed to start well by pitching the ball in the right areas, they could not quite carry it forward.
The spinners- Shakib Al Hasan and Mehidy Hasan Miraz- tried their best to slow the flow of runs but failed to get much success against the Kiwis. Devon Conway and Rachin Ravindra opened the innings for the New Zealanders but the later departed early on.
Conway was joined by skipper Williamson but the former got struck plumb in front of the stumps by a Shakib delivery. Williamson, nonetheless, carried on and left the field only after he got struck on his left thumb by an errant Najmul Hossain Shanto throw.
This proved to be a dominant performance from New Zealand, and one which will give them a lot of confidence going further into the tournament.
Mitchell seals the deal for New Zealand in style!
42.5 Shoriful Islam to Daryl Mitchell, SIX! That's game set and match. New Zealand have wrapped this up quite comfortably in the end, Was a slowish fuller-length delivery a tad outside off, Mitchell holds his shape and swings across the line, makes good enough connection and the ball goes sailing well over the widish long-on fence.
42.4 Shoriful Islam to Glenn Phillips, fuller-length around the off-stump channel, pushed away down the ground towards the mid-off region and takes a single.
42.3 Shoriful Islam to Glenn Phillips, yorker-length delivery a shade outside off, jammed away back to the bowler by Phillips.
42.2 Shoriful Islam to Glenn Phillips, slowish good-length delivery a tad outside off, Phillips tries to punch this on the up and gets an inside edge which just goes over the stumps.
