It brings us to the end of our coverage from this encounter. We have had an absolute thriller in the other game with South Africa scraping past Nepal by just one run. Uganda couldn't quite compete against the top flight nations and it is understandable given the fact they hadn't played against full member sides too much coming into this tournament. The World Cup carnival continues with India slated to square off against Canada later in the day. England will also square off against Namibia two and a half hours after the start of the India-Canada game. Keep following Sportskeeda for the latest sporting actions but for now this is me (Arya Sekhar Chakraborty) signing off also on behalf of my fellow commentator and good mate Karthik Raj.
Kane Williamson (New Zealand captain): Yeah guys were good. Obviously plenty there in the surface which made life difficult. Nice to end up on the winning side. Very tough, I suppose you can't control these things but you can just take those match ups into account. We have seen the scoring pattern through this tournament. Nice to do things a little bit better in the third game. Great to interwXt with these guys. This is the best opportunity to grow as players. I suppose in terms of conditions it is an added challenge to work on bits and piece but having that exposure is a great things for the associate nations. We recover tomorrow, then train and play again. The surfaces were a bit difficult and we are respectful of that. Hopefully we can end with a win.
Brian Masaba (Uganda captain): It has been a wonderful journey and experience playing at this level. The high performance environment helped us immensely all through the tournament and it has lso done wonders back home laying a platform. Have managed to interact with different players and pick their brains. We will try and keep getting better and hopefully the World Cup is just the stepping stone for greater things. A big thanks to all teams. They have shared their experience and tried to help us in whichever way they can. The young fast bowlers have inspired people back home to take up this sport professionally. To be honest, they come from a very humble background. It has been a humbling experience for me. People have loved us here in West Indies and we love them back.
New Zealand won by 9 wickets (with 14.4 overs to spare)
Devon Conway 22*(15) | Tim Southee 3/4(4) Kenneth Waiswa 11(18) | Riazat Ali Shah 1/10(1)
Domination right from ball one and it continued all through the day as New Zealand romped home by 9 wickets with more than 14 overs to spare. After a domination show with the ball by almost all the bowlers bowling out Uganda for just 40 runs, it was never a question whether New Zealand would chase it down.
The only question was how much overs will they take to reach the target and they did that with utmost comfort in the end. The Ugandan bowlers kept the ball in the right areas from most of their five overs. Cosman Kyewuta bowled a few great deliveries to start proceedings before Conway stroked him through the covers on the up to find the first boundary of the innings.
Finn Allen started off with a boundary off Juma Miyagi before the bowler got his lengths right and didn't concede a run. A couple of tidy overs followed with not many boundaries coming. Riazat Ali Shah then got Allen to tickle one down leg before Devon Conway smashed a couple of boundaries to seal the deal for New Zealand.
Tim Southee (Player of the Match): "Pretty clinical performance and nice to get a win. Extremely disappointed to find ourselves out of the tournament. We were outplayed in the last two games. Disappointed after doing well in the last ten years. (Whether he has more ICC tournaments in him)n Not getting any younger but feeling good after a break. So, yeah hopefully."
Tim Southee has been named as the 'Player of the Match'
It has turned out to be a dominating performance from New Zealand as they hope to end their campaign with two massive victories. That won't have a bearing on the eventual outcome of the super eights but given a team of New Zealand's class they will surely want to make a mark as the competition comes to an end for them. After an incredible bowling effort they took just 5.2 overs to get over the finish line.
5.2 Juma Miyagi to Devon Conway, FOUR MORE AND THAT'S IT! NEW ZEALAND WIN! Short and down leg, Conway pulls it fine and collects another boundary as the Kiwis coast home with 14.4 overs to spare. At last, they get off the mark in this T20 World Cup.
5.1 Juma Miyagi to Devon Conway, FOUR! Full outside-off, Conway comes forward and drives it through cover-point for a boundary.
That's the end of the 5th over and New Zealand just a couple of hits away from registering a resounding victory. Riazat conceding a hat trick of wides to make it a 10 run over.
