This brings us to the end of our coverage for the tournament. Punjab CC Amadora take home the coveted trophy, while Oeiras once again fall short of silverware at an ECN tournament. We hope that you enjoyed the commentary. This is Darpan Tikiya signing off!
Punjab CC Amadora 71/4 (6 overs) Simranjeet Singh 40 (13) | Absar Alam 1/11
PUNJAB CC AMADORA are the champions of ECSN Portugal 2024. The players gather around in a huddle and are jumping with exuberance and joy to celebrate this win.
It would not be wrong to say that the writing was pretty much on the wall when Oeiras' strong batting line up had been restricted to a subpar score of 70 all out. While, Oeiras batters were a little bit timid and tentative with their approach, you cannot take the credit away from the Punjab CC Amadora bowlers. They were accurate, at the stumps, and used the unevenness in the surface to their advantage. The fielders radiated positivity and were vigorous throughout the innings.
The batting did see some speed bumps. But Simranjeet Singh, who was promoted in the order on the big day, ensured that the team was never put in a position where they had to panic. He played his natural game, which is about using the long handle and his powerful forearms. The five towering sixes off his bat had already sealed the deal. Lovepreet's single down to backward square leg was merely to complete the formalities.
On the other hand, it is another heartbreak for Oeiras. They dominated the entire tournament, only to falter at the business end. A script they have seen play out in the past. But they only have themselves to blame.
