Commentary

That's the end of the road for Oman in this tournament. They have had their share of highs and lows, some brilliant individual performances and just their beautiful energy in the field which lit up Zimbabwe. A lot of lessons for them. The same goes for West Indies, who have another dead rubber to play. If they can beat Sri Lanka, it might give them the confidence going ahead to take on India at home next month. Aqib Ilyas (Oman captain): We were short on the runs. It was a flat track. We knew we had to score 300. One run out changes the game and we had three. This is a big platform. Many big sides have been out of the tournament but Oman has finished in top-six. Good for us to be here and a lot of learnings on where we lack. Oman will play in the Emerging Cup in Sri Lanka and then the T20 World Cup qualifiers.

Shai Hope (West Indies captain): A little too late, unfortunately. Happy to see the stride we have taken though. In international cricket, there are no walkovers now. You need to play quality cricket against every team and that's what we did. [On change in fielding energy] The past in the past. I just asked the guys to enjoy the game, have fun. I was happy to see the fight. I love to see Brandon play, he makes my life easier. Hopefully, he can continue. [Hope's secret to success] Play the situation. I am happy I can get those runs in.

Brandon King: (First thoughts) The idea has always been to improve from every game. Wanted to make this opportunity count and looked for more scoring opportunities today. (On his overall game) I'm just trying to be consistent and keeping the intensity high, all the time. Assessing conditions is something I work on, especially as an opener and so far, it is in favour. (On the outcome of the Qualifier for the West Indies) Pretty disappointed not to have made it to the World Cup but, will take this win for sure.

A clinical win for West Indies and finally, finally they open their account in the Super Sixes! It has come very late and against a relatively easy opponent but there are positives to take and as Carlos Braithwaite says on air, they should see this as their first match in the journey to 2027!

Oman started the second innings with Bilal and Kaleemullah. The former extracted no swing at all and the latter, seeing that, stuck to the Glenn McGrath length. His wicket of Charles would make the Australian legend proud and that gave Oman some early hopes. However, those were quickly diminished by King and Carty as they started sitting for bad deliveries, which kept on coming once in every 10 balls. Oman were excellent and energetic in the field but the bowlers lacked creativity from that time itself.

Nadeem came in as the first change and tried a few slower ones but was toothless. The two spinners, Odedra and Ayaan, had their moments but gave away too much room, allowing West Indies to keep the run rate ticking. King and Carty had just gotten in their groove when Goud's throw ran out the latter in a very controversial manner. The bails were not completely out of the stumps when Carty was outside the crease but the third umpire gave him out on the basis of it not being in the "groove".

Kaleemullah was brought back early but couldn't offer much else. Simple line and length bowling just didn't work anymore. Ilyas on the other end was poor, bowling short and wide constantly. King raced to his century and Hope, who would have expected to be tested with the short-balls a bit more, also settled easily. King reached his hundred and got out against the run of play via a rising ball from Bilal. Pooran and Hope finished the innings off.

39.4 Mohammad Nadeem to Nicholas Pooran, WEST INDIES WIN! Full outside off-stump. Driven away to deep cover off the front foot for a single that will complete a thoroughly professional victory for the men from the Caribbean. This may not heal the wounds of not qualifying for the World Cup, but, it will at least give them some solace heading into their final match against Sri Lanka.
