Our desiderium ends in disappointment. Well, such is life sometimes. With that Pakistan and Bangladesh end their campaigns without a single win. But there is plenty to look forward to. Afghanistan and Australia lock horns tomorrow. Remember, the Aussies were on the receiving end of a coup de grace when the two teams met at the World T20 in June 2024. Even in the 2023 World Cup, Afghanistan had them on the mat before Maxwell played that freak innings. Tomorrow with all on line, it promises to be a cracker of a game. We will be there to call the action. Do join us at 1:00PM local time [1:30 PM IST]. For now, it is the duo of Darpan and Pradeep signing off.
Najmul Hossain Shanto [Bangladesh captain]: Obviously very disappointing, not in our control. We really wanted to take part, it happens. If you look at our two matches, we were in the game for a longer time and that is inspiring for us. We made mistakes and we need to correct going forward. Happy with the young fast bowlers, we struggled a bit in that but we've been doing well. Rana has bowled well, we have a mix of youth and experience. We have variety too with Rishad Hossain being the wrist spinner. I felt we have to work on, especially in nets is strike rotation. I hope the boys will understand from here on.
Mohammad Rizwan (Pakistan Captain):"It has been raining in the last few days. You can't do anything about it. (On the campaign as a whole) You can learn from your mistakes. Hopefully we can do better on our next tour. We are going to New Zealand. Hopefully we can do well there. (On injuries to Saim Ayub and Fakhar Zaman) When the guy who performed so well in Australia, South Africa and Zimbabwe gets injured, the team gets disturbed. But that cannot be an excuse. We need a lot of awareness and professionalism. It was a disappointing campaign. We were here to represent the nation. We have disappointed the nation. We will learn from our mistakes and come back better.
3:50 PM local time [4:20 PM IST] - Lets hear from the two captains...
3:31 PM local time [4:01 PM IST] - The match has been called off. The inevitable has happened. The game has been abandoned without a ball being bowled again in Pindi. The rain continues to pick up and that meant the officials had to be fair and use their senses to call off the game.
3:30 PM local [4:00 PM IST]: The intensity of the rain has only picked up since the last update. There’s still plenty of time before a decision is made about calling off the game, but if the rain continues like this, the officials may be forced to take action. With the outfield already forming puddles, it’ll be much harder to get the ground ready when the rain stops. Stay tuned for further updates!
Sujat: "What is the condition of pitch?" Gasping for air while it is under the tarpaulin cover, Sujat!
Dushyant: "Please tell me rain stopped?" Only if you like hearing lies, Dushyant!
Sapan DG: "Let it be any team, New Zeland will the crown this time." They have indeed looked solid, Sapan! But then, it has been the story of "so near, yet so far" for them several times over the last one decade.
