4:55 PM local time (5:25 PM IST): Stumps on Day 1 - Pakistan 143/4 in the first innings!

Session Summary: 13.3 Overs | 57 Runs | 0 Wickets | 4.22 RPO

It was a short session scheduled for an hour and an extra 30 minutes if required. But light has had the final say in a truncated opening day in Multan. It's been a fascinating day no less despite fog and mist delaying the start by a good few hours. Jayden Seales had Pakistan on the mat at 46/4 in the second session but Mohammad Rizwan and Saud Shakeel dug in thereafter on a deck that has aided spin and low bounce.

Things only got better for Pakistan as they resumed this session at 86/4. Rizwan in particular came out with a clear intention of putting the spinners under pressure as he took a particular liking to Jomel Warrican. Kevin Sinclair did pose some questions of Shakeel but the left-hander raised his ninth half-century as he continued to maneuver the ball around with ease.

Rizwan unleashed his sweeps and slog sweeps at will, notching up a fifty of his own as Pakistan pushed the initiative forward. Seales did return for an over but the lights came on and it became too dark to continue with pace and eventually, spin too with skipper Kraigg Brathwaite halfway through his opening over. It was a surprise to see Gudakesh Motie not get a go this session considering how many deliveries he got to rip past the right-hander's bat in that second session. But with this partnership now standing at 97 and batting not bound to get any easier, the West Indies will have to start well tomorrow morning and pick up a couple of early wickets to ensure that Pakistan don't post a big score.
Official word out - it's Stumps on Day 1 in Multan!
Fans didn't take to Babar Azam's failure kindly today. Here's a look at some of the reactions!👇
Let's hear from Jayden Seales: It's about backing your skills and the preparation we had in Islamabad. If we got the ball in the right areas we would have got something out of the pitch. For me it was all about hitting the right length and drawing the batter forward into a false shot. And put the bad ball away as much as possible. I've strengthened my stock ball and obviously I'm trying to not let the batter predict what's coming next. (On his stint with Sussex) I worked on a few things there. I'm very thankful for that opportunity. We just need to continue bowling good balls. There's always something in it. Probably about 250 is good on this pitch.
4:49 M local time (5:19 PM IST): A wide grin on Rizwan's face as he walks off. This little passage of play has been dominated by Pakistan and he can be very pleased with his efforts. It was interesting to see Brathwaite bowl himself though. This deck, while aiding the spinners, has only offered slow turn so far so his loopy off-breaks would have been easy to play off the deck.
The umpires converge again...and they've deemed the light to be bad enough to continue. Off go the players! No official word yet but it's hard to fathom a resumption today!
41.3 Kraigg Brathwaite to Saud Shakeel, flighted on a length outside the off-stump, Shakeel gave himself some room and cuts it to deep covers for a single.
41.2 Kraigg Brathwaite to Mohammad Rizwan, short and down the leg-side, Rizwan goes back and swipes it to long-leg for one.
