Well, that was it from the second encounter of a Sunday doubleheader and the fans just got their money's worth! Brisbane Heat who fielded first after winning the toss did exceptionally well to restrict Perth Scorchers to a below-par 137. Jess Jonassen was the pick of the bowlers who returned with match figures of 4-0-16-3. Poonam Yadav who was playing her first match in the Big Bash did an excellent job from her side picking up a couple of wickets with the important scalp of Beth Mooney who was well set on 40. Heather Graham was Poonam's second victim who departed for 6. Nobody really got going until Piparo finished with a small cameo scoring 20 off 14 balls.
Brisbane Heat came out positively and started with a bang with Redmayne and Harris going at 11 a over by the end of over 4 when Redmayne ended up miscuing and giving a sitter to Chamara Atapattu. Jen Jonassen joined Harris to stitch a partnership and they managed to add 45 for the second wicket before Jonassen dragged a wide ball off Mills onto her stumps.
Things afterward were just downward for the Heat with Harris departing soon after. But the moment of the match was Alana King held onto a stunner off her own bowling when Laura Kimmince miscued one straight into King's hands. From 87-1 Heat slipped to 117-6 in no time.
Another highlight of the match took place in the last over of the innings when de Klerk wanted a second which Hancock refused and de Klerk had a brain fade and didn't return to her crease. 3 runs were required in the last ball and they managed two with Mills missing a easy run-out.
And then the drama unfolded more because it was the SUPER-OVER. The first of the tournament!
Heat batted first in the super over because they batted second in the match and scored 12 runs credit to Bosch who smashed a couple of boundaries only to be run out in the last ball of the innings. Kapp was the underrated performer for the Scorchers who bowled a great spell in the match along with a tight super over with just a handful of bad balls
Perth Scorchers came out for the chase with their experienced campaigners in the form of Beth Mooney and Sophie Devine. The skipper took the strike and boy did she mean business! Smashed two sixes off Jess Jonassen coupled with two singles to finish the game. Done and Dusted!
That was a perfect Sunday feast for all you fans around the world! But we might need some time to recover from what just happened towards the second half of Heat's batting. You can soak it in and until then, this is me Anavit with my co-commentator Abhishek signing off. Take care and see you around!
Alana King (Player of the Match): Thank you! Feels amazing to contribute with the ball. Got a little trickier in the middle but emerged out of it victorious at the end. (on the catch) Well to be honest that just stuck and quick reflexes help you hold onto it but that was an important wicket at that stage considering how dangerous she (Kimmince) could be
Perth Scorchers vs Brisbane Heat (Mach Tied) - Perth Scorchers won in the Super Over
What an anti-climatic finish to an otherwise close encounter! For the large part of the match, all of us were watching this like were under a edge of a knife where a slight moment can draw your blood
That was poor bowling to be honest. You just can't flight the ball with so much room for the batter to tonk it over the bowler's head
0.4 Jess Jonassen to Sophie Devine, SIX! AND THAT IS THAT! Full, outside off, and Devine comes down the line again to play it downtown. The ball just touches the rope and after some consultation with the third umpire, it has been awarded as a SIX! Perth Scorchers should have won the match in regulation time but they won't mind taking it to the super over, considering they won the contest at the end.
Sophie Devine means business here!
0.3 Jess Jonassen to Beth Mooney, full, outside leg for the left hander, and Mooney comes down the line to play it towards the deep midwicket.
0.2 Jess Jonassen to Sophie Devine, full, outside off, and Devine guides the ball at the cover region for a single.
0.1 Jess Jonassen to Sophie Devine, tossed up full toss, wide outside off, and Devine comes down the line to smack it downtown bisecting the long off and long on. The worst possible delivery to begin a super over. SIX!
The experienced duo of Mooney and Devine walk out to the crease
