Sydney Sixers Women 130/9 in 20 overs Elyse Perry 59(48) | Amy Edgar 4/19 Suzie Bates 18(23) | Sophie Devine 2/20
The Sixers have slumped to a big defeat here and the Scorchers have put up an absolutely clinical effort with the ball. They were in the game till about the 16th over while Elyse Perry, their skipper was out there, but once she had been dismissed it turned out to be a bridge too far for them in the end and they lost by a big margin of 36 runs in the end in what turned out to be a comprehensive win for the Scorchers women.
The Sixers started off well courtesy a really good opening stand between Perry and Bates but they couldn't really hold on to the momentum as they kept loosing wickets at regular intervals from there on. Perry was left stranded at one end and the runs dried up at the other. Chloe Tryon looked dangerous for a while but she too was dimissed in the quest of quick runs. Perry played a vintage knock yet again and displayed her wide array of strokes in the process but her 59 of 48 wasn't going to be enough for the Sixers to chase down a total as big as 167.
The Scorchers bowling was led by the girl with the golden arm, Amy Edgar. She got the breakthroughs at regular intervals starting with the one of Bates and ended up with career best figures in the end. Alana King had a tough in the field as she dropped a couple of catches but she made up for it with a couple of wickets. Skipper Devine chipped in too and picked up a couple of wickets at the fag end. Teenager Ainsworth had a rough start with the ball, but she bounced back well and capped off her spell with a wicket as well.
Overall, it has been a thorough team effort with the ball from the Scorchers and they've bounced back really well from the defeat that they were handed a couple of days back by the Melbourne Stars. The Sixers though struggled with the bat and there will be some reflections for them to do in that dressing room.
