Prague Spartans CC beat Moravian CC by 49 runs
Tame. That's the word one can use to describe the performance of Moravian batting line up whilst chasing down the target of 118. Agreed, the target was quite steep and would have required some stellar performance from the Moravian batters but a little fire or intent would have been nice to witness.
Openers Dheeraj Thakur and Vignesh Surendran were unnecessarily circumspect and afforded far too much respect to the Spartans' bowlers. While Thakur carried his bat through the innings, he could only muster 35 runs whilst consuming 29 deliveries. Absolutely criminal when you are entrusted with the responsibility to set the tone of the game.
Skipper Om Sharma (0 off 4) and wicketkeeper Akshay Babu (10 off 12) also couldn't add much to the chase and in the end, the Moravian innings kind of fizzled out. Spartans allowed the part timers to bowl and get some much required match practice under their belt.
With this loss, Moravian's are all but out of the playoff contention. They still have a mathematical chance of making it to the top-4. However, given the way the team has performed, it looks highly unlikely that they will go the distance. Meanwhile, Spartans have consolidated their position at the top of the table and will be absolutely elated going into the business end of the tournament.
So that was that. This is Abhinav Singh and my partner Bidipto Datta signing off for the moment. Do join us in 25 minutes' time as we bring live action from the match between Prague Tigers CC and Vinohrady CC.

Slow proceedings in the field as Kumar bowls a flurry of wides before getting his radar right. Moravian batters are not even trying to look for the big shots. Meanwhile, Spartans are giving bowling practice to their not-so-established stars. An improbable 56 runs required in 6 deliveries
