That's all from us then! This is Soumarya Dutta, signing off on behalf of my partner Arya Sekhar Chakraborty. See you soon!
Jimmy Neesham, Player of the match - Myself and Rovman looked to keep the run rate up and remain aggressive. We didn't want to put the pressure on the guys behind us. The conditions here have been quite similar to what I faced towards the back end of the SA 20 in Johannesburg.
Sarfaraz Ahmed (Quetta Gladiators captain): The way the pitch played today, batting wasn’t easy. The momentum we picked up was great. 155 was a good score but we conceded too many boundaries. Hasnain and Naseem Shah is improving day by day. Not only for our team, but they have also been doing brilliantly for Pakistan. We are very confident but we are making mistakes here and there. We have to play according to the situation, it is important to talk with players. Hopefully, Vivian Richards will join shortly.
Rovman Powell: The plan was to bat with the captain. Babar was batting which kept me coming. My work was to just bat through. He was saying that a partnership of 50-60- will get us through. It's my second year with the franchise and it has been very good. Not only Darren Sammy everyone here has been very comforting. I think we are playing good cricket, we need to play good cricket for longer periods. We have to keep improving as a team and a individuals. The pitch was a little bit better, to be honest.
Peshawar Zalmi 157/6 in 18.3 overs James Neesham 37(23) | Mohammad Hasnain 3/13 Rovman Powell 36(23) | Naseem Shah 1/14
Peshawar have clinched an absolute thriller here! They had a few hiccups in the middle but in the end, they got over the line with ease. Dasun Shanaka held his nerve and he got good support from the senior pro Wahab, who stayed there till the end and finished it off in style with a couple of fours. They did struggle early with a cluster of wickets early on but Rovman Powell and James Neesham put together a key partnership. The duo kept going for the big hits and didn't allow the bowlers to settle down. Neesham departed in the 17th over but he had done the damage by then and it was a little too late for his side.
The Quetta bowlers were taken by storm as the Zalmi got off to a flyer in the first two overs. Hasnain and Naseem pulled things back for them with the wickets, especially the former who picked three, however , they got very little support from the rest of the bowling . The spinners were taken to the cleaners and Mohammad Nawaz had an off day especially. He was the most expensive of the bowlers and got treated with disdain, particularly by Neesham and Powell.
Overall a great game of cricket and Zalmi have got back to winning ways here! The Gladiators will have to go back to the drawing board and figure out the flaws in their performance. They will have to look at their bowling options and work on their batting too, considering that it led them down big time in this game.
Peshawar Zalmi win by 4 wickets!
18.3 Mohammad Nawaz to Wahab Riaz, FOUR! Wahab Riaz finishes it off in style. Nawaz not managing to get any grip, flatter and shorter a tad outside off which allows Wahab to transfer his weight on the backfoot and carve it away past the cover fielder.
18.2 Mohammad Nawaz to Wahab Riaz, FOUR! That has been clattered away to the fence. Again Nawaz bowls it on the shorter side. On a length around middle, Riaz goes deep into the crease and crunches that past the cover fielder and off to the fence.
18.1 Mohammad Nawaz to Dasun Shanaka, shorter this time, turning away from Shanaka. He goes on the backfoot and punches this to the sweeper cover fielder for a single.
Mohammad Nawaz [3.0-0-38-1] comes back into the attack.
Dasun Shanaka took on Odean Smith and got the over that they wanted! It's almost over now for the Quetta Gladiators with just 8 more needed more Zalmi.
