As Roma CC lift the trophy and delve into celebrations, it's time for us to conclude our coverage of the Italy leg of the 2023 European Cricket Series. There's plenty of ECS action to come in the near future - the biggest event of the ECS calendar - the European Cricket Championship, is set to commence in a few days! Do keep an eye on our tabs for our coverage of the same, and of course, a lot more! This is Rajarshi, signing off on behalf of Soumarya. See you later!
As one-sided a final match as you'd witness in the ECS! Roma CC were far too good for the Roma Bangla Morning Sun in all departments today as they clinch the much-coveted ECS Italy trophy, and take a step towards the 2024 European Cricket League! Roma CC batted brilliantly, and then with the ball, they ensured no fireworks right from the outset. Sharif Raihan and Anik Ahmed looked to put up a very brief fight initially, but that was it from RBMS.
They were always going to lose wickets going after the runs, and that was the case. Their batters, Anik in particular, struggled against the pacy short deliveries dished out, and the scorecard went on to read a sorry tale for them. Crishan Kalugamage follows his stupendous performance with the bat with a three-wicket haul in the two overs, playing a fundamental role in killing the game off.
Roma Bangla Morning Sun were more than decent in the league stage, finishing 3rd in the points table, but Roma CC, much like today, were a cut above with their results, claiming wins in all their league matches. They succeed in keeping the unbeaten run till the end of the tournament, and for sure, are deserved winners of the competition.
Scenes of jubilation as Roma CC wrap things up with back-to-back maiden overs! They have been the better team by a country mile today, and have the result to back it up!
