Commentary

An excellent match comes to an end as Scotland goes down in history as the team to deny the West Indies a berth in the upcoming World Cup. That's all we have from this game, switch tabs to follow the TNPL taking place or some fiery Ashes action between the two fierce arch rivals, England and Australia. Richard Berrington (Captain, Scotland): We have been very clear in our plans, the boys feel physically good and it is really good to have so many options as a captain. Since Brandon has come in, he has been fantastic in his short career. He has opened the bowling today and has batted really well as well. It should be another good game (vs Zimbabwe). There are two points on the line and they are playing some really good cricket in their home venue. Things have been going pretty well. We've missed two of our experienced players but the youngsters have done really well to come in and fill that home

Shai Hope (Captain, West Indies): To be honest, it is not one thing to place my finger on We let ourselves down in the tournament. We knew the conditions will be in the bowler's favour, every single captain wins the toss and chooses to bowl first. We need to look at the future and hope for the best and not rue at the past. Dropping catches and misfields happen, it's a part and parcel of the game but we must give our 100%. Our preparation from back home must be strong and if we get it right, we can go on and become big. We have two more games left, there is enough talent and we need to transfer it into consistent performances. They (Scotland) played really well. We could see the discipline in their bowling attacks and that's something we can learn from them. We are all new in the setup and there is a lot to look forward to ahead

Brandon McMullen, Player of the Match: Things were going my way today, and I had to make use of it. All three of the wickets I picked today made me happy. I just wanted to bat till the end and make sure the job was done. Matthew (Cross) was fantastic today- it was good to see him back in form. It was always a part of my plan to hit the ball straight, and glad that it came off.

Historical moment for both sides here in Harare. For Scotland, it is the first time they have beaten the West Indies in this format of the game and for the West Indies, this is the first time they have failed to qualify for a World Cup (ODI/T20I). This tournament has taught each and every cricket fan an essential lesson, no team is a minnow and they can take on the big boys in international cricket without any fear.

The inning was underway with a wicket off the very first ball when McBride chipped one straight to Kevin Sinclair at short midwicket. They had the young Brandon McCullen partnered with the seasoned Matt Cross and the duo anchored this chase beautifully as they stitched a partnership of 125 runs, with both of them scoring half-centuries.

West Indies managed to pick up a couple of wickets as they snapped up McCullen and Munsey but it was a little too late as Cross led them to a historical win and kept their chances alive to play the World Cup later this year.

It was a mediocre bowling performance from the Men in Maroon as they failed to pick up wickets at regular intervals and lost the plot completely. Akeal Hosein, Jason Holder and Romario Shepherd were the only bowlers to pick up a wicket as all the other bowlers conceded a little more than what was expected of them. In the end, it will be a time of retrospect and rebuilding for them so that they can come back stronger.
