Commentary

That brings us to the end of our coverage for another ILT20 game. We have several matches lined up tomorrow. Do join Sportskeeda for live updates from those game but for now this is myself (Arya Sekhar Chakraborty) signing off also on behalf of my fellow commentator and good mate Bidipto Datta.

Avishka Fernando is the Player of the Match, here is what he had to say: He was only focussing on his normal game and every fell in the correct place today. He says that the wicket was nice to bat on. It came naturally for this sort of a wicket. He didn't realise he broke the record for the fastest half century. All he wanted is a win for the team. (Translated from interpreter)

Tim Southee (Sharjah Warriorz captain): Yeah to chase down such a big target. To come out and play like the way Avishka did was great. Bit of fielding and execution with the ball wasn't great. Yeah could be a number of things, people getting used to each other. Guys in new teams finding time to settle in. Yeah was a good wicket. If you executed with the ball it wasn't easy. Shai Hope batted well for them and then Avishka for now. It shows depth of our squad.

Sikandar Raza (Dubai Capitals captain): Yeah certainly. The first two games the batting didn't come to the party. 202 is a very good total. The wicket tends to stay low here in Sharjah and I was confident of winning this. Shai is always one of those leading run scorers. I hope he keep scoring the runs and want Dubai Capitals winning more of the matches than the opposition. It was to difficult to bowl with so much dew. The surface got better but our fielding was the turning point. Avishka batted brilliantly but if we had taken the first chance, things would have been completely different.

The Sharjah Warriorz chased down the biggest target in the history of ILT20 as they defeated the Dubai Capitals by 5 wickets and with 11 deliveries to spare. The run chase was always going to be a difficult one for the Warriorz but the intent from Johnson Charles was clear from the outset. He came out all guns blazing and was supported well by Jason Roy who failed to get his timing right during his 24 ball stay.

Charles smoked three fours and three sixes en route to a stunning knock of 27 off just 19 deliveries. He gave the self belief to the middle order and Avishka Fernando took it to a whole new level. He started connecting everything from the centre of the bat. He got support from Roy and then Rohan Mustafa. Fernando tormented the Capitals bowling attack and clobbered a 27 ball 81 which was studded with 6 fours and 8 sixes.

He also completed the fastest ILT20 half century in its three year history. It was sheer domination from the Sri Lankan and none of the bowler had an answer in front of colossal hitting. Luke Wells joined him following the departure of Mustafa. He played the second fiddle to perfection and also found the gap and took the onus on himself to get the job done.

Fernando departed in the 16th over but by then the equation was within touching distance. Wells eventually remained unbeaten on 31 as the Warriorz chased the target of 202 inside the 19th over. Dushmantha Chameera was the pick of the bowlers for the Dubai Capitals with 3 wickets to his name. Stay tuned for the post-match presentation ceremony.

18.1 Gulbadin Naib to Luke Wells, round the wicket, SHARJAH WARRIORZ WIN A GREAT MATCH! THEY PULL OFF THE HIGHEST RUN CHASE IN THE TOURNAMENT'S HISTORY! Back of a length around off-stump. Wells waited for it, stayed on the back foot, pressed slightly forward and thumped it on the up over extra cover for a boundary!

A couple of dot deliveries to end the 18th over but it's a matter of a few deliveries before the Warriorz seals it. What a dominating performance and this has been. Just 4 runs required off 12 deliveries.

Gulbadin Naib [2-0-43-0] is back into the attack.
