Commentary

10:15 PM local time (11:45 PM IST): The Warriorz failed to defend a total in their fourth successive game and hence sit dead last on the points table with 4 points from 7 games. Meanwhile, the Giants have revived their form with two wins on the weekend and are tied with two other teams at 6 points from 7 games. That is it from this thrilling chase as I, Keshav, bid you adieu on behalf of my colleague, Rajarshi.

Tom Alsop is the Player of the Match: It was nice to spend some time there. It was obviously a nice wicket. The conditions were very different last night; soaked up some pressure and grinded down some runs. Today was the case of assessing the conditions and it was more batter friendly. The bowlers had little margin for error. The ball wasn't gripping into the pitch so there wasn't much for the spinners.

James Vince (Gulf Giants captain): A big weekend for us to get back in the competition. Pretty tight games but glad to come out on the right side of them. Couple of days off for me and then welcomed back by the team and it's nice to be back in the mix. Last night when we brought spinners on it felt like the conditions were not ideal for them. We obviously had extra seam options in the lineup today. We so the scores of yesterday and the seamers dominated, so felt like it was the best option and the conditions. It's nice to have fresh faces coming in when you are struggling a bit and we have a couple more to come with Tim David and Chris Jordan. It would be a nice mix when they arrive and hopefully we built the momentum at the right time.

Tim Southee (Sharjah Warriorz captain): We were in it for the majority of the game, but that's how the game goes. Feel like we had enough runs on the board. But obviously, it dewed up a bit in the second innings. There's three games left, hopefully, we can salvage something out of them.

The game kept on swinging from one end to the other in the second innings, but the two Toms--Alsop and Curran--made sure that it is the Giants that cross the line.

The Gulf Giants get two back-to-back wins by defeating the Sharjah Warriorz in their den by 6 wickets. Tom Alsop played the anchor role and stayed in the middle throughout to keep the Giants in the hunt. He got a decent support from Tom Curran to smack boundaries in the death overs when the required rate climbed over 11 runs per over.

James Vince and Tom Alsop gave the Giants an ideal start by smacking boundaries against the pacers to take their score to 60/1 in the first six overs. However, the Warriorz's spinners did a decent job in the middle overs to not let runs flow easily. Until the ninth over the game was poised with both the teams having equal chance to win.

The Warriorz then bowled a bunch of tight overs, and that proved crucial as it got the wicket of Gerhard Erasmus, who had formed a decent partnership of 29 runs with Alsop. As the required rate increased, Shimron Hetmyer came and smacked a maximum against Madushanka; however, poor shot selection caused his dismissal. He looked to play a delivery outside the off stump over mid-on but instead outside edged it to covers, where Roy did a brilliant job to make the ground and grab it.

It was down to Tom Alsop, who had witnessed wickets falling at the other end alongside Tom Curran. The two batters targeted the 16th over by Dilshan Madushanka and whacked two boundaries and a maximum to keep the required rate under control. Zampa bowled the next over and conceded just five runs to make it 35 runs off 18 deliveries. With Milne bowling the 18th, Alsop smacked him for a boundary straight down the ground and then Curran coupled it with a maximum to pull the tide back towards the visitors.

In the next two overs, all the Giants needed was a boundary, and Alsop slammed a maximum to Agar. This coupled with a misfield from D'Souza to concede three runs almost secured the deal for the Giants, and they furnished the formalities in the final over to get a big W.

The Warriorz were the better team in the middle overs; however, their inability to clinch wickets at regular intervals, especially in the powerplay and then towards the end, where their bowling was subpar, are the two major talking points for them.

19.3 Tim Southee to Tom Curran, dropped, throw evades the stumps, and the Gulf Giants are home! On a good length at around off, Curran cleared his front leg and looked to swat it towards mid wicket. The fielder close in flung himself to his left but shelled the chance. There was a shy at the bowler's as the batters went for the winning run, but the stumps weren't found. Gulf Giants stay in the hunt for playoffs!
