And so comes to an end a second massive upset in just over 48 hours. It was an absolute privilege calling this historic moment and bringing it to you on Sportskeeda as we thank you for being a part of it with us. Can Afghanistan make it two upsets on the trot though as they run into New Zealand in Chennai? Join us tomorrow and find out right here on Sportskeeda. For now though, this is the duo of Arya Sekhar Chakraborty and Sooryanarayanan Sesha taking your leave to try and let this all sink in. It still feels surreal and we won't blame you if you feel the same way. See you around tomorrow - good night and take care!
A video of Logan van Beek dancing his heart out has gone viral again. The Dutch can all join hands and break into a jig - this is a win worthy of a celebration. They have made a statement and a half to the tournament and have declared once again that they aren't here to just make up the numbers. They mean serious business even if they don't have as much experience to fall back upon as the others. Dharamsala has been very kind to them today and that's where they remain, earning a nice break to take a spin around the mountains for a couple of days before Sri Lanka, the only winless team of the tournament now, coming by on Saturday.
As for South Africa, they've suffered their first loss of the 2023 World Cup with a five-match winning streak in ODIs snapping out of nowhere. They will be hurting, but it's not all doom and gloom with six more games to go in the tournament. Next up is a team that also suffered an upset a couple of days ago and only one of England and the Proteas will feel happier by the time they're done at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai on Saturday. The loser of that game will certainly look over their shoulders nervously, won't they? But more on that later - tonight belongs to the Dutch and it's all about them.
Scott Edwards (Netherlands captain): Extremely proud. We came into this tournament with high expectations. Very excited to get the first win out of the way and few more to come hopefully. Yeah, I think most teams look at match ups. We do a fair bit of research. We come up with a few matchups and some days it works and some days it doesn't. That was a massive partnership for us. We were in a decent position in the first two matches where we lost our way. I am sure plenty of fans staying up and watching the game. Extremely grateful for the support and hoping for a few message from them.
Temba Bavuma (South African captain): I think if you look we got them to 112/6 and from there we wanted to keep them under 200. With the bat we were hoping to build partnerships but kudos to them to keep taking wickets. Whether its a skill set or a complacency thing, we have to discuss. The fielding wasn't the same standard to that was against Australia. The guys have to find answers themselves and bounce back from here. You have to let the emotion sip in. It will hurt and it should hurt but we have get back into the journey. Our tournament is not finished. It was a proper display from them. For them to come back from 112/6 to post a competitive score and then picking wickets. Good luck to them for the rest of the tournament.
Dutch skipper Scott Edwards is the Player of the Match for his outstanding unbeaten knock of 78. Here's what he has to say: Over the last couple of games our issue has been too many of our middle-order batters being out before the end of the game. I was looking to take it deep and with a couple of guys chipping in we were lucky enough to get to how many ever we ended up with. (On Roelof van der Merwe) He's good fun to bat with. He runs hard which I like and he hits it to strange areas. (On his partnership with Aryan Dutt) That was pretty easy on my part - I just had to get him on strike for him to clear the ropes (grins). That was some pretty awesome hitting I've seen from a number 10 bat. He's got a lot of talent. Obviously proud I suppose of the group and putting in that performance as a whole and playing my part, it's obviously nice. We came into the tournament and wanted to have a chance at playing the semifinals. If you've got to do that you've got to beat teams. South Africa are one of the favorites the way they're playing.
Netherlands won by 38 runs

It turned out to be a historic day in the history of Netherlands cricket as they defeated a Test playing nation for the first time in the World Cup. It was a thoroughly professional performance with the ball as they managed to keep taking wickets at regular intervals and despite some brief partnerships, South Africa was never in the game to be honest. Quinton de Kock and Temba Bavuma started well and didn't play any audacious shots and try to build a partnership.
Bavuma then came into his own by smashing a six and a four of Colin Ackermann before the offie made the maiden breakthrough in the form of QDK's wicket. He ended up gloving one straight to the keeper. Roelof of Van der Merwe then castled Bavuma with an arm ball and South Africa was under a bit of strife. The good work continued as two more wickets fell in no time. While Markram was cleaned up by Paul van Meekeren, it was Roelof who accounted for Rassie van der Dussen. It was going pear shaped for the Proteas when Heinrich Klaasen and David Miller tried to steady the ship with a partnership.
Klaasen was hardly troubled during his run a ball 28 before helping a short delivery straight down the throat of the deep fine leg fielder. Miller kept the hopes alive for South Africa as he shared a good stand with Gerald Coetzee and brought them back into the game. Miller's departure at the hands of Bas de Leede was the final nail in the coffin as far as the Proteas were concerned. They kept losing their way as wickets kept falling just when it looked like they would run away with this game.
Roelof van der Merwe bowled splendidly and was one of the pick of the bowlers, finishing with 2/34 in his 9 overs. Barring Miller and Klaasen, none of the batters looked in complete control. Keshav Maharaj and Lungi Ngidi delayed the inevitable with a good final wicket partnership but that was always going to come in a losing cause.
Earlier in the day, it was an incredible turnaround from Scott Edwards and Roelof van der Merwe who build a solid partnership and bailed them out of trouble before helping them post a challenging score on the board. Aryan Dutt smashed three lusty blows towards the latter stages of the innings to take them to a more than competitive score which proved to be enough in the end by a fair distance.
We have just witnessed one of the major upsets of World Cup cricket. What a memorable performance from the Dutch. They did everything right after the top order collapse and in the end, the bowlers rose to the occasion and handed them a victory to remember for a lifetime. This is their 3rd victory in a fifty over World Cup but the first against a Test playing nation. They will be very proud of their performance and the fans are rejoicing. For the first time, South Africa has lost a World Cup game against a non Test playing side.
42.5 Logan van Beek to Keshav Maharaj, GLOVED TO THE KEEPER! The Dutch reign supreme in Dharamsala! A story of David overpowering Goliath if there ever was one and as Nasser Hussain would say, 'South Africa have been double Dutched!' Coming to the delivery - it was a slower one shoved into the track at the stumps as Maharaj backs away attempting a wristy upper-cut. This time, he can only glove it as the skipper pouches it rather fittingly so. How fitting is it that the man who powered the Dutch to the World Cup picks up the last wicket. Bring out the dance Logan van Beek - The Netherlands shock South Africa by 38 runs!

That has been clubbed down the ground for a maximum. A flat batted tennis shot to a slower one which came in at a nice height but it's just too late for the Proteas.
42.4 Logan van Beek to Keshav Maharaj, SIX! TREMENDOUS SHOT! Slower short delivery outside the off stump. Maharaj parks his front leg aside and uses his bottom hand to flat-bat it dead straight over the bowler's head. He watches it sail the distance for a maximum. Alas, it's going to go in vain...
