Australia Women - 272/5 in 45.2 overs (Meg Lanning 135 off 130, Annabel Sutherland - 26/1) beat South Africa Women - 271/5 in 50 overs (Laura Wolvaardt - 90 off 134, Shabnim Ismail, 33/2) by 5 wickets.
Nothing much to say here as this was all a Meg Lanning show today! Australia have outplayed the Protreas here to win six out of six matches as they sit comfortably on the top of the table. Australia's batting was a masterclass and even though the wickets were falling, it seemed to have done no damage to the batters. They have showed why they are the top favorites for lifting that trophy and there is absolutely no stopping the mighty Aussies at the moment.
The match started with what could have been a completely different result as the batters started off with just a few runs with two wickets down and Shabnim Ismail was bowling some brutal pace with some amazing line and length and it was the dropped chances off the edges that provided the aid to the batters to stay there on the crease. The wickets were falling occasionally on one of the end but it was the other end where Meg Lanning was batting.
Meg Lanning was the cream of the crop in today's match as she managed to make her 15th ODI ton, as she gets her side a comfortable win. She was hitting the boundaries from time to time and even though the wickets were falling on the other end, she did not get caught by the pressure and kept on hitting those shots for the big runs.
Sune Luus (South Africa-W, Captain) - "Had a great first innings and thought 270 might be a good total. Its always a difficult one. It was nice to contribute to the total with the batters also doing the same. We lost a bit of focus and it surely won't happen in the games to come. Shabnam was phenomenal as she got the edges of the glove and all we need is a bit more consistency win the games that are remaining for us."
Meg Lanning (Australia-W, Captain) - "We were in the game for sure and felt like we could chase it. It was a fresh wicket today and we surely held the innings out there with the bat and the ball. Elyse Perry is not seriously injured hopefully and will look to continue with us in the games to come".
Meg Lanning has been awarded the Player of the match again, brilliant hundred to take her team through and she was there still the end!
Meg Lanning talking to Nasser Hussain: It was nice to contribute, I think it talks about a lot about our top four, trying to bat through, playing the match winning inning, it's me today but it's someone tomorrow but it was nice to be there till the end. Kapp and Ismail bowled really up front, I left more deliveries than I ever have, which I think was more important, that awkward length was tricky, need to get through the early spell and got the moment later on. She(Ismail) was bowling quick and didn't bowl any bad balls, that sort of swung the momentum back to South Africa, it was nice for me to be there in that little period, could've turned dangerous. I was a little disappointed that I couldn't contribute after New Zealand but in these last two games I'm happy that I am able to do that. I was very clear about my plans and execute them. It was clear to me that I am the batter that has to bat through after we lost couple of early wickets and the batters that came after, Mooney, McGrath took the pressure off me and allowed me to play my natural game. Number three position is a crucial spot and I try to score as many as possible to win the games for Australia!
45.2 Ayabonga Khaka to Annabel Sutherland, THAT'S IT! Australia go six out of six, firmly sitting at the top of the table. South Africa looked hapless in the field and were never in the game. Strays the length delivery down the leg-stump line, Sutherland helps it along down to fine-leg for a single and that'll do for them. Plenty to ponder for South Africa especially with so many dropped chances, they need to come back better in the next two games!
45.1 Ayabonga Khaka to Annabel Sutherland, full delivery, tails into Sutherland on the middle and leg, gets behind and drills it straight to mid-on fielder.
This could be the last over of the match here as just 4 runs are required
