Spain win by 5 runs!
Muhammad Ihsan 63* (24) | Mati Ur Rehman - 2/32 (2) Asa Tribe 47 (20) | Julius Semerauer - 2/22 (2)
In the end, the difference between the sides was those 5 penalty runs awarded to Spain in the first innings! In fact, had Jersey bowled slightly better, it could have been a different outcome.
Because Jersey made a really valiant attempt to chase a stiff total down! All the batters gave it a really good shot at getting to the target. But the catch at long-on by Spanish skipper Daniel Doyle Calle to dismiss Josh Lawrenson in the fifth ball of the final over was out of the top draw under pressure!
Spain held on to their nerves and managed to somehow defend their first innings total with 4 of their 5 bowlers in among the wickets. But they too need to do better if they have to progress further in this competition.
On the whole, it was a good match to start Championship Week off!

9.6 Mati Ur Rehman to Elliot Corbel, IN THE AIR AND CAUGHT!!!!!! SPAIN WINNNN THE THRILLER! Full, almost yorker length on the middle and Corbel was in two minds between a sweep and a hoick and gets something in between but the ball goes miles in the air off his top edge and the fielder at square leg makes no mistake! SPAIN SEAL IT WITH A FIVE-RUN WIN!
Elliot Corbel c Muhammad Ihsan b Mati Ur Rehman 0 (1b, 0x4, 0x6)
Elliot Corbel, RHB, is at the crease. 6 runs to get off 1 ball!
9.5 Mati Ur Rehman to Josh Lawrenson, OUTTTT! CAUGHT! JOSH LAWRENSON HOLES OUT! I's a full toss on the middle, deserves to be put away, Josh doesn't get enough on it and the fielder at deep mid-wicket grabs it at a comfortable height
Josh Lawrenson c Adam Alger b Mati Ur Rehman 14 (5b, 0x4, 2x6)
9.4 Mati Ur Rehman to Julius Sumerauer, full and wide, and Julius sweeps it to mid-wicket for a single
Jersey need 7 runs to win from 3 balls...
9.3 Mati Ur Rehman to Josh Lawrenson, full on the middle, Josh lifts it over long off but doesn't get enough of it and it drops in front of the fielder who keeps it to one
