Dasun Shanaka, Sri Lanka captain: The team has been playing well in the recent past. We like playing the World Cup qualifiers, we don't take pressure when we play our cricket. We would have still bowled first had we won the toss. If we opened with our fast bowlers, we could have capitalized with the moisture. The top-order did an outstanding job, Dimuth carries the game to the middle overs since his return to the ODI side. I would like to see my two fast bowlers get more wickets with the new ball, with the movement that they get. With the surface, we need to try the short balls a bit more, we need to stick to our plans going deep into the tournament.

Muhammad Waseem, UAE captain: We started well, but were looking for some early wickets, we didn't get them. Moisture was there on the pitch, but they played really well. I thought that we could restrict them to 250-260, but we didn't bowl well on the last few overs. We started well with the bat, but after that when I was dismissed, the innings collapsed. Naser is a great talent, he's the future of UAE. Had he played all 50 overs, things might have been a bit different.

Wanindu Hasaranga (Man of the Match) - I am really happy. We know when we were batting the wicket was good.After that, the ball was gripping and that's the benefit we had. I always try to bowl wicket-to-wicket and we have a 50-50 chance to get a wicket if we execute the plan. Our batters played really well. 350 on this wicket was always going to be tough.

The Sri Lankan spinners, Wanindu Hasaranga in particular, proved to be too hot to handle for the United Arab Emirates batting line-up. Hasaranga kept honing in the googly, the UAE right handers kept plonking their front foot right on the line of the ball, and were deemed LBW candidates! The target of 356 was far too much for them to scale down, and the fact that they weren't able to capitalize on Sri Lanka's fifth bowling option early on didn't help their cause one bit.

Muhammad Waseem and Rohan Mustafa got UAE off to a steady start. Both Rajitha and Kumara were generating some movement off the air and the deck. The two UAE openers looked to make the most of the bad balls and found the boundaries frequently. Mustafa, though, looked to up the ante in the most ridiculous manner, and Sri Lanka had their first in the 6th over. Waseem and Vriitya Aravind looked to stitch a partnership after that, with Waseem, of course, playing the role of the aggressor.

Waseem's wicket, thanks to a stupendous catch from Charith Asalanka at deep square, sparked the collapse that Sri Lanka were hunting. Wanindu Hasaranga ripped right into their middle order with his googlies, and was proving to be absolutely lethal. Half the UAE side were down within the 25th over, and it was a matter of formalities post that. However, young Ali Naseer put up a brief show, clobbering the Sri Lankan bowlers with gusto before being undone by Theekshana. Six overs later, Sri Lanka got the job done. They start off the World Cup Qualifier campaign on a great note. Time to hear from the captains now...
