We now come to the conclusion of our coverage of the Women's Big Bash League for the day. Finals' action begins in a couple of days - join us right here on Sportskeeda for our coverage of the same, and of course, a whole lot more! This is Rajarshi, signing off on behalf of Bidipto. Have a nice day!
Ellyse Perry is the Player of the Match! Here is what she has to say.
Ellyse Perry: It is a bit of a shame that we cannot progress further but yes, we played well today! Always a good experience to play here at the SCG, the wicket was brilliant and we have enjoyed it! We've lacked a little of consistency and a little bit of confidence through the season. Losing Alyssa Healy was a big thing, but, the competition is so good that we needed to be up for it all the time. Hope to get back stronger next season.
Match summary:
Sydney Sixers win by 9 wickets with 15 balls to spare
The Sixers' WBBL campaign wasn't going to end without an Ellyse Perry special! There was a healthy turnout at the SCG today, and the people were entertained to the fullest! Perry paced her innings to perfection, finding the gaps and clearing the long boundaries at will, and with the equation hovering around a run-a-ball in the last four overs, the Sixers took the Power Surge and finished things off in style!
Perry set the tone for the chase in the powerplay itself as Bates looked to play herself in. The iconic New Zealand all-rounder found going unusually tough today, though, struggling for timing and placement. But she went on to play the ideal second-fiddle role as Perry made merry, notching up a boundary almost every over ever-so-immaculately.
The only wicket came along to some wicket-keeping brilliance - Darlington strayed down leg bowling to Bates, and Wilson was really quick to shuffle across, gather cleanly and have the bails off as the momentum of the attempted glance took Bates out of her crease. Gardner took over the role of second fiddle from then on, which helped Perry immensely as she helped the Sixers coast along.
Samantha Bates was the pick of the Thunder bowlers today, but she was unlucky not to come off with a wicket today. Gardner skied one trying to take her on and got away. Once the Power Surge was taken in the 17th over, the game seemed to be up for the Thunder right away. A total of 5 boundaries were hit in it, the last of which got the Sixers over the line.
There it is! The Sixers claim the bragging rights in the local derby! Hobart Hurricanes' crushing loss earlier today help the Thunder in qualifying for the Finals, though!
17.3 Marizanne Kapp to Ellyse Perry, THAT WILL DO IT! SYDNEY SIXERS WOMEN FINISH WITH A WIN! Full around off-stump. Perry moves forward and makes room to drive square and find the gap past point for a boundary!
17.2 Marizanne Kapp to Ellyse Perry, FOUR RUNS! Short and slow on middle-stump. Pulled away behind square on the on-side in the gap for a boundary off the back foot!
17.2 Marizanne Kapp to Ellyse Perry, WIDE outside leg-stump to take the score even closer to the target!
17.1 Marizanne Kapp to Ashleigh Gardner, full on middle-stump. Knocked down to wide long-on from the crease for a single.
Marizanne Kapp (3-0-23-0) is back into the attack
It took 20 deliveries for Gardner to find the boundary today! The Sixers, as expected, maximize on the first over of the Power Surge, and are almost there - just 8 needed off the last three! All class from Ellyse Perry - boy has she played some aesthetically pleasing strokes today!
