Weather is perfect, some breeze going across the ground. Dimensions 74m down the ground, 67m to my left. Short boundaries need to keep into account. It doesn't give a good look and the numbers also say the same. It's been a low scoring affair mostly. Back of a length is what needs to be used mostly with extra-bounce on offer. Nortje will be key on this wicket and the spinners will need to pitch it up, the ball has spun a lot. Fast bowlers will enjoy, not going to be a high scoring encounter. Win the toss and bowl first.

The idea of the Men's T20 World Cup being a 20-team event seems better with each passing game in the 2024 edition of the tournament! This United States of America side sure put up a envy-worthy display with the bat - they seemed down for the count just after the halfway mark, but the duo of Gous and Harmeet gave the Proteas a jolt heading into the death. It took some Kagiso Rabada brilliance to de-rail them towards the back-end. Plenty to take away for them as they head to their next game - a clash against continent-rivals West Indies on Saturday.

De Kock and Aiden Markram's partnership provided the Proteas with stability, upon which they were able to bank on eventually. As it turned out, the wicket seemed a touch tricky on quite a few occasions, and so, de Kock's fluent 74 off 40 sure proved to be the point of difference between the two sides. Shamsi's outing with the ball today, though, will be a cause of concern for them among others as they head to St. Lucia next for a game against England on Friday.

Aiden Markram (South Africa captain): Gous played really well, made life tough for us. Pretty good performance from us in the end, maybe a couple of things here and there and the result might have looked a bit more convincing. You take those lessons and tidy then up. Hopefully, moving forward, we get those stages right and the wins look more convincing. Nice start, the wicket definitely changes up, we saw it with us as well. They bowled well, the wicket got a bit slower, little bit stoppy, we'd much rather finish like that between Stubbsy and Klaasy to get 190 instead of blowing out and getting 160-170. Couple of lessons to take, but nice for the batters to be in the middle and get some runs. Nice for Quinny to get his flow and everyone else chipping in. Nice positive for us moving in the comp. There was a couple of overs we could have tidied on and the result could have looked different, couple of executions let us down. Think our bowlers have done a really good job given the conditions.

Aaron Jones (United States of America captain): It's hard to take a loss like that after coming so close, we needed to be disciplined with the ball. We have a really good unit, lot of talent in the USA. Once you play good cricket, you can beat any team to be honest. We need to be lot more disciplined, we could've pulled off if we had stayed disciplined, that's how it goes. We need to go back to drawing board and come back hard in the next game. Happy to be going back home to me personally, I know the conditions very well. As a team, majority of them played in the Caribbean, we should be good and play fearless cricket, hopefully come out on top.

Quinton de Kock is the Player of the Match! Here's what he has to say: It's nice getting out and especially on a decent wicket finally, we've had tricky wickets coming up until this game. Boys played really well, USA played well and put us under pressure towards the end, it was a great game. Not much, just focus on scoring runs towards the with the win and shorter boundary. We've had a tricky couple of wickets coming into this game, it was nice to hit the ball from the middle, scored some runs to our names, great to be out there. I don't think it counts, we still need to win couple more games and we're up against big teams and it's nice to get out there. Different venue, different surfaces, you never know what you'd be up against.

With a mountain to climb, the United States of America needed a flyer to get their chase underway. Steven Taylor proceeded to provide them with just that - Andries Gous stationed himself nicely at the non-striker's as Taylor absolutely ripped into the Proteas' attack early on. Aiden Markram brought himself on to counter the left-hander with his off-breaks, but ended up providing Taylor with a bit of impetus instead.

Markram then turned to Rabada to provide the Proteas with a breakthrough, and that was exactly what happened. Rabada ran in, hit the pitch hard, had Taylor mistime out, and Klaasen completed a fine catch. Gous, then joined by Nitish Kumar, proceeded to keep at it - the duo struck an over-boundary each over the leg side off Jansen, and while Nitish Kumar departed in the final over of the powerplay, USA had a start to bank on.

The Proteas spinners alongwith Anrich Nortje then proceeded to apply the squeeze on the United States. Aaron Jones dabbed at one that spun away from him and nicked behind, Corey Anderson struggled for 10 deliveries, smashed Nortje over deep mid wicket off his 11th and lost his leg pole to the same bowler next ball, and Jahangir was caight in front by Tabraiz Shamsi.

The United States still had a counter-attack or two up their sleeves - Harmeet Singh walked in, took both Protea left-arm spinners on and raced to 14 off his first six deliveries. Andries Gous then broke free - he took on Nortje's pace, clobbered him for 18 out of the 19 off the 15th over, brought his own half-century up with it, and kept his side well and truly in the hunt.

Tabraiz Shamsi missed his lengths far too often in his last couple of overs. The wrist-spinner went for 35 in them, leaving the United States with 28 to get off the last two overs. Kagiso Rabada then had Harmeet Singh hole out to deep mid wicket, and as it turned out, that was the moment which saw the tide turn towards South Africa for good. Nortje closed things out comfortably, and the Proteas, having had a scare, manage to seal a win to begin their Super 8s. Stay tuned for the post-match presentations...

They sure put up a brave, brave fight, but the Proteas pacers got the job done at the back-end. Top-notch effort, this, from the United States of America. They had a couple of stands full of fans rooting for them, but they ran out of ammo towards the back-end.
