Moises Henriques (Washington Freedom Captain): I thought they got 15 more runs and the way our boys started with the bat turned the momentum in our favor. Under lights, the ball came better and we played well. We just need to keep doing what we are doing. We need to focus on the process and whatever the environment and conditions we come up with in the next two days, we have to adapt to it
Sunil Narine (Los Angeles Knight Riders Captain) - It's a good total and if we could've picked up a few wickets inside the powerplay, then I thought we had a chance but credit to the openers for taking the game away from us. The pitch got better under lights but I still think we got a good total and we didn't execute our plans with the ball
Andre Russell (Player of the Match) - The body is good. Everything is tough in this format and I have to manage. I didn't bowl and Narine managed me well. We have one more to go. I am enjoying my batting but the result is an issue. We want to finish with a win. Luck is not going in our way and we have to look at ourselves and see what's going wrong and keep backing ourselves
Matthew Short: Once the lights come on, the wickets become quicker. Zampa and Sunil were hard to face, so we attacked the quicks inside the powerplay. I am lucky to be here and I want to capitalize on the opportunity. Any win from here will get closer to the top 4. All the games were sold out and thanks for the crowd for coming out and showing good support
Washington Freedom won by 6 wickets Matthew Short 43(35) | Andre Russell 70(37) Moises Henriques 3-26(3) | Sunil Narine 1-20
The Kinght Riders suffered their fourth straight defeat and are out of the playoff race officially. They posted a fighting total on the board but the bowlers didn't rise to the occasion in reply. The wicket got better under lights as Short and Gous went all guns blazing to help the team get off to a lightning start.
It was raining boundaries and sixes inside the powerplay as the duo set the tone and it made things easier for Washington in the end. Gous was the aggressor in the partnership as he smashed 40 off just 15 deliveries and once he got dismissed, Mukhtar stuck with Short to nudge the ones and twos before Phillips played a handy cameo to ensure that the momentum stays firmly in Washington's hands.
Short slowed down once the powerplay got over but still, he played sensible in the middle. Narine got the better of him with an absolute peach but Henriques and Pienaar took the team to the finish line comfortably
18.1 Ali Khan to Obus Pienaar, FOUR! Pienaar seals things in style. Short and wide, Pienaar gives room and cuts it over backward point for a boundary
