Commentary

That brings us to the end of our coverage for the second ODI between West Indies and England. The series decider will be played at this Kensington Oval on Wednesday and it promises to be a hard fought one. Lots of cricketing action lined up in a few hours but for now, this is myself (Arya Sekhar Chakraborty) signing off also on behalf of my fellow commentator and good mate Darpan Tikiya. Goodnight! Shai Hope [West Indies captain]: I personally I felt it was a decent score. The outfield was sluggish and I felt it was enough which wasn't to be. If you don't contribute centuries towards a win, it doesn't really matter. We need to be more disciplined. We were little bit off, bowled a lot of wide deliveries. We didn't execute the plans which we had in place. I guess we didn't bowl well. We gave them easy deliveries and they cashed in whenever they got the opportunity. Keacy has been putting in a lot of hard work. Sherfane has also batted beautifully and Shimron with that breezy cameo helped us.

Liam Livingstone [England Captain and Player of the Match]: "Certain things I have done in practice have helped me. I felt like I was getting back to my best. I think I have matured a bit. Whenever I am enjoying myself, I do well. I tried to assess the pace early on. It went perfectly to plan. Curran played beautifully. Very clever to spot that no-ball, he hit it away for a six and we were away. We needed one of our top 6 to get a big score and that happened. Salty was very good too. We bowled well too. The fielding was a bit off. But the bowling was good. Looking forward to Barbados now. We will now rest up and see what we need to do to win the series."

Riding on a match winning partnership between England captain Liam Livingstone and Sam Curran, England chased down a still target of 329 pretty comfortably in the end to level the three match series 1-1 with the decider slated to be played at the Kensington Oval on Wednesday.

West Indies batted brilliantly early on in the day to post a massive score of 328. Shai Hope’s century and Keacy Carty’s half century laid the foundation for a massive score. However it proved a bit too less as Livingstone in the company of Sam Curran powered his team to a comfortable five wicket victory.

The opening duo of Phil Salt and Will Jacks came out with a positive intent and found the boundaries quite regularly in the powerplay. It was Salt in particular who made full use of the powerplay. Jacks also started finding his range when he hacked one straight down the throat of the deep square leg fielder. Jordan Cox struggled his way to a 19 ball 4 before his departure.

Salt continued the good work and went onto reach a well deserved half century. It was the return of Matthew Forde which saw the return of Salt for a well made run a ball 59. Jacob Bethell batted beautifully for his maiden ODI fifty. He used the feet beautifully and defied the West Indies spinners but a lapse in concentration saw him lobbing a Roston Chase delivery straight down the throat of the long-off fielder.

From there on, it was all about the partnership between Livingstone and Sam Curran. They took their time initially but never failed to capitalize on any loose deliveries. Livingstone in particular smashed the much needed boundaries to not allow the required rate to creep over the 10 run mark. He just went berserk in the last stretch of the match.

The powerful right hander kept smoking sixes after sixes and eventually remained unbeaten on 124 off 85 deliveries which was studded with five fours and nine sixes. Curran was dismissed with England nearing the victory target. However Livingstone continued the carnage and smoked Shamar Joseph for 24 runs in the 47th over to make it a foregone conclusion. For West Indies, Matthew Forde was the pick of the bowlers, finishing with figures of 3/48.
