Commentary

Thanks a lot for joining us- Mohul Bhowmick, Rajarshi Das and Pragadeesh- for this exciting game in the ICC Cricket World Cup Qualifiers where Logan van Beek single-handedly won the game for the Netherlands. The game went to the super over and that was where van Beek stood up and put his hand up to be counted. A superb game, and we will see you again; until then, goodbye and take care!

Scott Edwards, the Netherlands' captain: I am still basking in it. I don't think I have been a part of a better individual game of cricket than this. We have a lot of belief in this group. The way we have been playing our cricket, we knew that we had to bat well. Teja (Nidamanaru) was phenomenal, as was Logan (van Beek) towards the end. We have worked hard on our running between the wickets over the last eighteen months. Logan seemed to be in some kind of a trance, hitting almost every ball for a six or a four in the super over. We knew that this was going to be a massive game. We are fortunate that we are going into the super six with two points in our pocket. (Asked if this was the best game of cricket he has played) Yes, comfortably!

Shai Hope, the West Indies' captain: I couldn't see us losing after scoring 374. Credit to the Netherlands- they did extremely well with the bat. I know cricket is not a game of one half, but I honestly thought that 374 was enough. The picture is right in front of us- this is an unfortunate situation we have put ourselves in but we go into the Super Sixes with no points at all.

Logan van Beek: Can't really explain what happened. We wanted to do something special....the more Scotty and Teja batted, the more we believed, and when I got out there....I've been playing 13-14 years, and the amount of games I have lost from that situation...it's so satisfying to get one past the line, and tell you what, I'll wait another 13 years to do it again! For me, it's just about keeping the head still, back myself, if he missed, I'm going to hit it. That was the mindset. I was pretty disappointed with that last ball that I chunked to mid on, but no, I said in my head that if it's meant to be, it's meant to be. Thankful that I got a bit of redemption. I remember facing Roston there, and I though I was going to give myself a chance. I backed myself to hit, and thankfully, when he came on for the 49th I thought we had to get on here. It's in the books now! Massive. Massive for the boys, the culture that they built over the last 18 months, we played a lot of Super League games and were on the other end of those beatings, non-stop. The amount of learnings this group had, and to possibly have a chance to go into the World Cup in India is huge. We'll enjoy tonight, and then set our sights on the next game.

The chase seemed on for as long as Scott Edwards and Teja Nidamanaru were in the middle, but all the dreams of the Dutch evaporated once the duo departed. The Netherlands lost the wicket of Saqib Zulfiqar in between these two big scalps, and that was almost the game done right there.

The partnership that Edwards and Teja had was filled with brilliant running between the wickets as well as the timely boundary at regular intervals. The West Indies were given a real scare when the duo got going, but a lot of credit has to go to the likes of Roston Chase and Jason Holder, who bagged the wickets of Edwards and Teja respectively.

When it mattered the most, these senior West Indies players stood up and made their opponents wither. Teja's stroke-filled century, quite fortunately, did not go in vain. And that is when Logan van Beek and Aryan Dutt came to the crease and got together.

It was thanks to the expertise of Logan van Beek and Aryan Dutt that the Dutch managed to pull off one of the greatest heists, as Carlos Brathwaite, cool and comfortable in the confines of the commentary box this time, said, in the history of one-day international cricket.

The West Indies would not have thought in their wildest dreams that they would end up on the losing side despite having put up 374 runs on the board. The Netherlands have truly shaken international cricket. They took the game to the super over and that is where the Logan van Beek show began yet again.

He struck a boundary off every ball and made sure that the score got up to 30. Having done a job as remarkable as that, van Beek came back to bowl the super over for his team and finished the job off quite comfortably! The Netherlands will be over the top thanks to this result while the West Indies will be extremely disappointed with themselves. This was one of the finest one-day internationals ever played!

The Netherlands do it! The Netherlands do it! This game will go down the ages as one of the finest ever played! Also, spare a thought for Romario Shepherd, who got out for two first-ball ducks in the same match.
