Commentary

Zimbabwe have clinched another closely fought game here at the Queens Sports Club, Bulawayo and they continue to hold on to their top position in the points table! Spare of thought, for Oman who tried incredibly hard but fell agonizingly short in the end! That being said, for now it's Soumarya Dutta, taking your leave on behalf of Karthik Raj! See you soon!

Craig Ervine, ZImbabwe Captain - The wicket seemed quite different in the morning and our bowlers missing their lines and lengths made it easier for Oman! We were put into bat early and the first 10 overs were very tricky for us! The wicket got better in the later part of the day. We have been playing some good cricket and we don't need to change much! It was tough day out for us but I still feel we did a good job! Hopefully we will comeback on Sunday and have a cracker of a game against Sri Lanka!

Zeeshan Maqsood, Oman Captain - We didn't do well in the field and we gave away 30-40 extra runs there! We had an amazing start in the second half from Prajapati and Aqib! However, we lost key wickets at crucial junctures and in the end it cost us big time! We tried to target the shorter boundary in the middle overs but somehow we couldn't keep up with the rate! I have a hamstring injury and it did cost us in the end, as had I been out there, we would have definitely won the game!

Sean Williams (Player of the Match): The wicket was a pretty good one. In the beginning, it was a bit slow and that made it difficult to score boundary. Running between the wickets was important. In the end, it was difficult for the bowlers as the wicket got better as the day went on and Oman batted very well too. Staying nice and calm is the most important thing. Running between wickets puts a lot of pressure on the opposition. When I first saw the wicket, thought 270 would be enough. Thank goodness, everyone chipped in!

Right so, Zimbabwe have pulled off their 7th consecutive win in ODI's here and they're unbeaten in this tournament so far! Oman did really well and they made a match out of it but just fell short in the end! The innings was started off with a bang by Kashyap Prajapati and Aqib Ilyas who put on an absolute show in the powerplay! Sikandar Raza managed to break that partnership to bring Zimbabwe back in the contest but Prajapati continued from there on!

Skipper Zeeshan Maqsood got injured and had to retire hurt! It proved to be a decisive moment in the game as Oman started to fall behind the run rate from that stage! Blessing Muzarabani came back into the attack and picked up the wicket of Prajapati courtesy a moment of brilliance from Raza in the field! Zimbabwe were ahead of the game from that stage onwards! Ayaan Khan put up a brave fight but he fell short of partners as Zimbabwe kept chipping away at the wickets!

Towards the end, Mohammad Nadeem and Fayyaz Butt gave them a bit of a scare but Richard Ngarava held on to his nerves to bowl an outstanding penultimate over to seal the deal for Zimbabwe! The Chevrons bowlers had a tough outing, however the wickets in the middle overs proved to be really crucial for them!

The spinners, Williams, Raza and Wessly Madhevere did an excellent job for them! They gave away only 124 runs from the 24 overs they bowled between themselves! And in a high scoring game, it turned out to be the clinching deal in the end! Chatara was the most expensive of the lot, however he did a job for his skipper as he picked up some key wickets towards the end! Muzarabani though, was the pick of the bowlers as he ended up with 3/57 in his spell!

5th win of the competition for Zimbabwe and they take one more step towards to the ICC MEN's CRICKET WORLD CUP 2023 in India! They beat Oman by 14 runs here at the Queens Sports Club Bulawayo!
