He defeated Pedraza by a seventh-round TKO to win the title. He won the following fights and landed another championship opportunity against Jesus Cuellar on April 21, 2018, for the vacant WBA super featherweight title. Gervonta Davis defeated Cuellar by a third-round TKO to win the title.
